I have a small rock that I carry with me everywhere I go. It's a river stone about twice as big as a thumb. It's a magic rock. To me, it reminds me of two things - how I got the rock (there is a long story there, but it serves to remind me that every day is a gift) and as a memento morte, reminding of how fleeting this life is.

it's not exactly the Q.. but when we have a nurse who is losing it during a shift, one of will say..
"you look like you've been working out" or "have you lost weight?"
and then we all laugh because the stressed person stops and smiles.. and it's a moment to breathe/refocus
