Ashcroft singles out internet pornography

I can't see it affecting too many sites. "Normal" porn has always been protected by free speech and will probably remain so. I could see the courts cracking down on some more questionable sites but I would hope that your typical porn site wouldn't be affected. Not to mention that a good deal of them are not in the US anyway. As for Lit, I would assume that stories are almost entirely proctected by free speech but ya never know.
If Larry Flynt can stay in business then I would think most of the others could too. Hell, he publishes shit like "Barely Legal." I'd think that would be a prime target for these guys.
 
In reading that article, I'd say LIT is safe because they single out literary value.

It amazes me how much time, effort and money some of these people spend fighting any type of adult oriented venture. There's a million other things more seriously wrong in this country than people engaging in sexually oriented situations. Be it strip clubs, or internet porn or whatever.

I'm all for going after the pedophiles, but dammit this is a free country. If I want to look at sex stuff on the net, so what? Spend that time and energy chasing down rapists, murderers and the sort. Use that money to catch drunk drivers so no one else has to die because of them. Bust the gang bangers.

Yeah, me browsing porn is much more important than any of that stuff.
 
I can see their point when it comes to sites that don't require any age indentification at all. I can think of several just off the top of my head. IMHO they should have some sort of system that would stop kids from seeing. Yes, I know, it's the parents job to do that but any parent knows that kids are awfully sneaky.
Anyway, I can see wanting to do something about that, but putting them in jail? That's dumb.
 
Oh, and Bush is a worthless asshole too.

Sorry but was on another board and got on a Bush rant and thought I'd let it spill over into here. Gotta get my frustrations out on him somehow. Writing to him doesn't do any good except to make my FBI file bigger.

Anyway, Ashcroft is an ass, but there is a plethora of porn producing companies that I think should be shut down. Not because they make porn, but because of their ethics regarding how they produce their material, how they scout out and handle the people they put in front of the camera.

To Asscroft your constituional protections mean nothing. If he could he would trash the bill of rights and operate the U.S. as a Fundamentalist Theocratic police state. The only thing keeping him from dusting off his Nazi uniform and calling in the brown shirts to beat up opposition while he jails all dissenters if thae court system keeps telling him it's unconstitional. Not that he cares about the court system or checks and balances, he's still fighting to be allowed to enforce laws the courts say he can't.

He is also not above intimidation, seizing the medical records of all women who have had abortions. They won't let him enforce his partial birth abortion ban, but if the government is sezing the records of all women who have had abortions then the implication is A. you have no privacy, B. you have no right to doctor patient confidentiality, C. they are watching you.

Reinhard Heydrich was a good family man, Henrich Himmler liked kids, John Asscroft has no redemming qualitites, but certainly is trying to get into the pantheon of his other heros. We of course call them Nazi war criminals, but to Johnny Boy they had it right. Comlete thought control enforced by a secret police that was above the law, paid informers and a populace totally afraid to voice it's opinion. Hevan to that freaking pin head.

Even if I was still planning on voting republican I couldn't, not knowing GWB would give us four more years of that Nimrod.

I understand he is trying to enforce the ban on "partial birth abortions" even though the courts have shot down this law. The procedure is only done when the potential mother faces severe health problems if the fetus is carried to term or the fetus is found t have defects that would allow it to live no more than a few hours on its own.

Ashcroft is also trying to get the medical records of women who have had abortons, even these records are priveleged. They claim they are necessary as part of a lawsuit and would never be used for any other purpose. Anybody who believes that probably also believes in the Easter Bunny.

Colly, Ashcroft does have one distinction. He is the only person I have ever heard of who lost an election to a dead person. Carnahan died weeks before the election and everybody in Missouri knew he was dead but people still voted for him rather than Ashcroft.

I have no great affection for Kerry but I will probably vote for him just to get rid of Ashcroft.

I'd vote for fucking Lucifer as long as it meant all of these people had to go. Ashcroft is a jerk but he's only part of the problem. I'm gonna stop there before I get on another Bush rant, cuz those aint pretty. :)
