..I was taught that an altimeter was for determining your altitude ....

but here, it seems to be a counter for the number of alts posters use to talk to themselves so as to create the impression of a 'bandwagon effect'.

Why don't you create a couple alts and see if getting someone to agree with you makes you look smarter?

It hasn't worked for anyone else, but you can always pretend it did.

I don't believe for a moment you are or were ever competent enough to be a pilot.

altimeters are typically based on barometric air pressure, adjusted at takeoff .... instruments (ie air speed) typically work on ram air pressure (not suction), via a pitot tube....but a lot of them are now electronic too (ie radar or GPS based altimeters).

just pulling your leg pilot to pilot. THe small plane I fly has a "suction" gauge for Vacuum pressure
