Articulate? Witty? Come on in...

Butcher is awesome. As was Jordan. Supposedly at least he already had the ending down. If you want an erotic, female Butcher check out Laurell K. Hamilton.
Meh, I respectfully disagree. Because I don't want to offend anyone, I won't share my opinions on her work.

Yeah, I am not a huge fan of Butcher (mostly because there are just too many books) but I still resist the comparison to Hamilton.

I have weird thing about only reading series with a clearly defined endpoint. I find that they tend to drag on and I lose interest.

Neal Stephenson fans anywhere?

I tried not growing up and instead I grew out. Actually I am a bit short so in that sense......I never grew up. :D

Everyone has been telling me to read Martin, but like Potter, I resisted. Then I broke down and watched the show. *love*

However, I've also been told that he takes an obscenely long amount of time between books. I just don't have the intestinal fortitude for that. I think that I'll wait until he has finished the series. Waiting just a year for Butcher's new Dresden file, or the new Dexter novel just about kills me.

I'm a bit late to the party here but I've been to Virginia once or twice and it certainly isn't for lovers.

Anything edited by Ellen Datlow is, by definition, worth reading. Along with Gardner Dozois (her SF counterpart anthologist), she's one of the most consistently eagle-eyed editors of great short fiction.

You should try Peter Straub's 'Ashputtel' - one of the most disturbing re-imaginings of an already disturbing tale I've ever come across. Brilliant, though...

Have you ever read any of the retold faery tales, edited by Windling and Datlow? Like...Ruby Slippers, Golden Tears, or Black Thorn, White Rose, or Black Swan, White Raven.

Re-imagined faery tales make me squee inside.

Don't you judge me.

Do you like anything other than epic fantasy? Like urban fantasy? Have we discussed Jim Butcher? I'm too lazy to click on page 1.

Epic fantasy is my usual taste but I do branch out a little. Yeah you mentioned The Dresden Files and I've read a couple loaned by a friend a few years back. Liked them but I must've gone on to something else and not come back to them.

Butcher also has a new epic fantasy series. That's what he wanted to do originally, but the market was glutted. Urban fantasy was up and coming, and he happened to be good at it, so that's how he made his fame. His first love was epic fantasy, though. I've yet to read that series, so I can't cogently expound upon it, but...if the quality is like the Files, I'd enjoy it.

Agreed. I'll have to check into it. I didn't know he was doing anything in that area.
You reading anything good at present?

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be on the look-out for it; it sounds like something I would probably enjoy.

Have you ever read Robin McKinley's "Deerskin"? That certainly disturbed me...

Reading? Yes. Good...

Well, books are like food. I've been having a lot of junk recently, because I listen to the books on mp3 while running and the only ones that can distract me from not dying are the ones full of action and salaciousness. Scandalous.

Let's see the last book that I read...or listened to, that I would unreservedly recommend to someone while still keeping my literary street-cred would be... Probably the last Dexter novel.

You?

OK. Gotta go. Been nice chatting. Hopefully find you here again.

What will you discuss with yourself?
Probably the merits of various cheeses.

Alternatively, how much I would pwn in a dance-off between me and that girl who was so mean to me in the 3rd grade, if I had Michael Jackson and his backup dancers at my disposal.

This is how my mind works.

Are poles involved in this dance-off?

What will you discuss with yourself?

Sometimes, it is the most intelligent conversation that can be found.

"Why do you always talk to yourself?"
"I just have a penchant for... Intelligent Conversation."
- inquiry from BlackArachnia to Megatron, Beast Wars

I talk to myself because I'm such an enthralling conversationalist.

I always have such logical, well-thought points--and my opinions are always the same as mine!

Don't I agree with me?

Why, yes!

My dad use to say that when you talk to yourself you're talking to the smartest most agreeable person in the room.

Deerskin huh? I haven't read that one, I love Robin McKinley though. Sunshine is amazing.

Sure it counts, it's only by turning monologues into dialogues that we truly learn anything...
