Around the world

London has been doing that since the 1950s. Many seaside towns have large blocks of apartments built in the 1960s by London to house Londoners cheaply.

The LCC (London County Council) was given powers to buy land and grant themselves planning permission even against the wishes of the local seaside town council.

Kent and Sussex have significant numbers of homes for children, mentally handicapped and elderly that are filled with people sent out by London boroughs. The local County Councils have to ensure that the homes are run properly but receive NO funding from London for the extra workload.

At one time in the 1980s my town had 33 such establishments. The number is slightly less now because the smaller ones became uneconomic. But even now a significant number of their residents are from London boroughs.

It is a feature of UKIP's campaign in South Thanet. So many immigrant children from putside the EU (sent to the UK unaccompanied by their parents) are housed in Thanet that the local population is aware of them on the streets and in the schools.

In the schools the real difference shows - the immigrants WANT to learn and get qualifications.

It is sad to think that the little cottage, across the street from my flat block, has been sold, so that they could build luxury condos. The cottage housed mentally disabled children, and they had a large lawn with huge old trees, for their playtimes.

Very close to the heart of Boston. The difference between haves and not haves is becoming extreme.
