Arizona will have a female senator either way.

But will it be Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema, a center-left Democrat derided by The Young Turks and the Justice Democrats as being a "Blue Dog," who would also be the first openly LGBT Senator in American history, or will it be Congresswoman Martha McSally, best known for being the candidate that Trump wanted least, despite cozying up to him in her own way?

For my own part, full disclosure, I voted for Deedra Hill Abboud, the lawyer and social justice advocate who would have been the first Muslim Senator in American history, but that wasn't why I voted for her. I voted for her staunch progressive stances on key issues. She is a Justice Democrat and I am proud to have voted for her.

Nevertheless, one shouldn't let the perfect be the enemy of the good (Bernie or Bust folks, I'm looking at you), so I will vote for Kyrsten Sinema in spite of my misgivings on certain issues. At last I can be proud of helping advance both gender equality and LGBT rights.....and helping to turn Arizona blue.....if she wins.

I guess she did. Weeks of commercials showing Trump saying how great McSally is and McSally saying how great Trump is.

The Donald also flattered Arpaio quite a bit, too, as I recall......a lot of support for Sheriff Joe. As for Ward, she became very Trump-like in terms of accusing Senator McCain of dying just to hurt her campaign.....how dare he expire just when she needed him to live, because, of course, the Cosmos should revolve around Kelli, right?

Being a political junkie as much as a perv, it's nice to find this board. Thanks for having me.

Don't forget McCain's wife is the odds on favorite as his replacement until the 2022 elections. The victor of the two ladies mentioned above will serve until the 2024 elections. So, Arizona will go from two male Senators to most likely two female Senators just like that.

When a member of the House of Representatives dies (or vacates their office), their replacement is determined by constitutional federal election law, but when a Senator dies their replacement is determined on how each individual State law dictates. Arizona state law says the Governor chooses who to replace a dead or vacated Senator with, and that the replacement must be of the same political Party she or he is replacing.

John McCain ran for reelection and won another 6-year Senate term in 2016. The Governor of Arizona names McCain's Republican replacement who will serve out McCain's term. And McCain's wife is likely to be that person, unless she surprisingly declines.

Too bad Democrat ladies don't have a shot at both seats.

Didn't see any ads for Arpaio, but was surprised he got as many votes as he did. Ward is just weird.

What “progressive” stands? Have to admit, you are facile with the buzz words. What is “progressive”- legally stealing as much of my money as you can get your sticky fingers on? We’ll hub and I worked hard for it- he even risked his life (not primarily for the money, I concede- he kind of had a thing about men who threw acid in the eyes of women who didn’t want to wear the hajib.)

Just what the USA does not need- a Senator who upholds an ideology dedicated to forcing the infidel into a form of second class citizenship where a woman’s testimony is worth half that of a man’s, AND she needs four male witnesses to prove she actually was raped (bruises, broken bones, don’t count, on “religious” grounds- hey, maybe she’s into that). And Christian women are fair game whenever you get ants in your pants (yes, sexual slavery is explicitly permitted in Islam- after all, their dippy “prophet” engaged in exactly that).

Remember, Muslims believe in justice for them, and them only. Kuffars live at the sufferance of Muslins, who have no sense of “rights”.

Don't lecture me on Islam. I already know more about it than those claim that all Muslims monolithically support the same ideas ever could. Personally, I think that it, like all of the major Abrahamic faiths, is man-made and false, but people's private faiths are their business and do not necessarily determine their public policies. Therefore, I do not hold against individual Muslims per se, what their so-called Prophet taught them, any more than I hold against Christians, especially Mormons, what their clerics and their scriptures teach them.

As for the whole "taxation is theft" business, I won't waste my breath. I used to believe that at one point and then I grew up, realized that in a community, some taxation was necessary to pool resources for the benefit of all. It's not theft, it's part of the social contract and one benefits just as one pays into it. I just happen to believe that those who have drawn greater benefits from living in the community also owe that community a larger share of their profits than those who haven't benefited as much. I don't expect a conservative/libertarian sort to understand that, because I didn't, either, back then, but I will let time and experience, hopefully, show you the error of your ways.

No doubt, you'll have some clever response, but one rooted in the same foundational errors to which I once subscribed, so I will not waste my time in debate with you. I just happen to believe in a society where those benefit from living in pay their dues to it and where a certain basic standard of living should be absolutely preserved for all, after which one can augment that in a lawful manner that one chooses, whether through private or public sector employment.

Way to go, Oh Smarmy One, with setting up a straw man argument against which you can show your intellectual superiority. You chose to respond to an argument that I never made.

Just so nobody else is deceived by your mindless rhetoric, I will point out that discerning minds among those opposed to the Islamization of America do not claim that Moslems “monolithically support the same ideas”. It is the ideology of Islam- it is not a religion in any sense of the Judea-Christian meaning of that word- that is the enemy. Indeed, Moslem, particularly women and girls, are the foremost victims of that monstrous cult (which, unfortunately, all too many women buy into).

But that ideology is indeed predicated on the religious requirement to convert or subjugate the infidel. Sexual slavery is an inherent part of that evil ideology (gotta admit, Mohammad knew how to motivate witless, predatory young men). Historically and currently, from the time of Mohammad, Islam has been happy to murder and enslave the “kuffar”.

I would say that anyone who adheres to that ideology of slavery is unfit to serve in public office in a nation that was founded on the notion of freedom of conscience and the individual’s pursuit of happiness- after all, Islam means submission. We elect people who embrace that death cult at our peril as a (relatively) free people.

As for your “social contract” twaddle, I guess it never occurred to you that a contract involves agreement on the part of both parties, not one group imposing its idea of “fairness” on another. The republic survived about 150 years without a personal income tax at a time when it was a magnet for immigrants worldwide. So I guess the “social contract” that you so casually toss around does not require compulsory taxation on income (there were other forms of taxation, primarily, I think, through tariffs). Did it always live up to its ideals of liberty and justice for all? Certainly not, but that was an ideal that was seminal to the founding of the USof A, an ideal that is completely lacking that hateful, enslaving ideology known as Islam.
