In the last year I have gained a lot of weight. I am slowly working on taking some of it off but I still have they huge streach marks on my sides and belly. Does anyone know how to get rid of them? I've heard cocoa butter but does it really work?

Thanks,
Melissa

i belive that only works while your getting them, as it softens up the skin and doesnt make the marks in the first place. But im sure someone else will know for sure

i'm not entirely sure either... but skin is very elastic and resilient... given enough time they should at lest diminish if not disappear all together. i think it mostly depends on how long they've been around, how old you are and the more slowly you lose the fat, the better chance you should have of "recovering" from them.

bottom line is that whatever improvement there's going to be will just take time, whether it's a little or a lot of change really depends. of course, there's always plastic surgery but that's expensive.

Thanks ya'll. I'm only 19, so i'm guessing that they'll dissapear one day.

They will diminish over time, but they will never disappear. It's been 23 years since my youngest son was born, and I still have those tiny silverish lines.

Yeah, bobsgirl is right. They may become less noticeable, but you're stuck with 'em.

I've seen people also that got stretch marks on their thighs from having had a really sudden growth spurt--they stay, too.

I've seen ads for "laser treatment" services that claim to remove stretch marks -- along with tattoos, scars, hair, wrinkles, age spots and just about anything else someone might want removed.

I have no idea how effective laser treatments are on stretch marks, but it's the only treatment I know of that might work. Stretch marks fade with time, but they never go away naturally once you've got them and I don't know of commercial or folk remedy that is really effective in speeding up the fading.

Some people who aren't even over weight have stretch marks. You can get them from strenuous exercise. Being a mother and from experience with other people, I have never heard of them going away. You're stuck with them.

Thanks for all ur posts. I figured I was stuck with them :(. but I'll live :p and make ya'all see them when I go to the beach lol

Just out of curiosity... if you put on a lot of weight do your boobs get bigger? And then if you lose weight do your boobs stay bigger or do they go back to normal?

Breasts are the body parts least affected by changes in body weight.

Being fat does not equal having large breasts.

Yes, they can increase in size and when you lose weight, often you lose cup sizes.

My boobs seemed to grow with the weight I put on. I'm not too worried about them shrinking a lil when I lose weight cause right now I can fit my head in one side of my bra. (Not as much fun as it sounds :p) I know some people's boobs shrink a lot when they lose weight too.

I have stretch marks on my inner thighs from a rapid weight gain I went through a couple years ago. There is an over the counter cream called Mederma that will help if you use it correctly. Which is multiple times daily.

I also mederma "helps" as well as breaking up vitimin E geltabs and rubbing it into the skin (as well as taking them) and drinking ALOT of water.

But other then that and like everyone else has already said, only time will tell.

A friend of mine was telling me about a product that can get rid of them. Yiu can buy a bodybar from Lush (they're a chain of shops you get in the UK, I don't know about the US) that can get rid of them.

You can get this stuff at Macy's in the states called Strivecten. I don't think I spelled it correctly, but that is how it is pronounced. Anyway, it is a little spendy, but it heals the stretch marks. They won't ever completely go away, but this helps fade them into you skin. You cannot use this while pregnant though, just a discaimer.
