Area 51 (Closed)

“Are we walking from here or do we need to take my car for a little bit?” Matt asked as they opened the door and stepped out of the hotel room and out into the morning air. He gave the surroundings they couldn’t see from the window a glance to make sure they were still in the clear.

"We should take your car as far out into the nature preserve as we are able," Zephra told Matt with a nod, "Eventually though the road is going to run out and we'll have to hike the rest of the way. When I landed I tried to pick a spot that I thought would be secluded enough that no one would notice, but I must have been spotted by someone somehow when I was out gathering specimens."

Walking towards his car, she was careful to keep the hood pulled low to conceal as much of her blue face and hair as possible, her hands stuffed into the pocket of the hoodie to conceal them as well.

“Alright I’ll follow your directions.” Matt said as he climbed into his Jeep and they were off heading towards the nature preserve. It was a long winding road through the trees and the road only got more and more narrow until eventually they reached the end of the road.

"We'll have to get out here... pull the car over behind those bushes there so it won't be as visible from the road," Zephra instructed.

After Matt had done as she asked she opened the door and climbed out of the car and began to lead him off into the wood.

"Are you sure you will be able to find your way back to the car on your own if you come the rest of the way with me?" she asked, wondering if they should part ways now, as much as she hated the idea.

“Yes I will be able to find my way back. I’m not leaving until I’m sure you are safe and I’m your ship.” Matt said as he walked around the car to Zephra. “You lead the way.” He said feeling upset that soon she would be out of his life forever.

"Alright, if you're sure then," Zephra replied with a smile, pleased that they didn't have to say goodbye just yet.

She lead him a little further through the woods to a stream, then began to lead him along the side of it, the two of them moving upstream.

"A little ways further is a small waterfall that feeds this stream. The ship is concealed in the cliff side next to the falls," she explained.

As they made their way deeper into the peaceful forest Matt remained vigilant. Ever since they lost their pursuers the day before he felt like something was off. Like they were still being watched but he couldn’t see anyone or anything following them.

“Does your planet look anything like this?” Matt asked moving closer to Zephra as they kept walking.

Matt’s suspicion was right however. They were still being followed but not from the ground, from the sky. Unbeknownst to them, every employee at Area 51 had a gps tracker placed well hidden on their vehicle. The government wanted to keep track of the people guarding their secrets. Ever since they escaped the base they were being tracked and followed by a drone in the sky. A crew following but keeping their distance as well while staying updated through the drone.

"A little," Zephra replied with a nod, brushing her fingers over the leaves of a bush as they walked past it.

"Both of our planets have a lot of oxygen in the atmosphere and are able to sustain life, it's why I was sent here to study yours," she explained, "But a lot of the life on my planet is able to emit and absorb energy like myself. We have plants, and animals, and water like sources, but they of course are different than here. Many are phosphorescent and emit light, for example."

Matt’s imagination was running wild trying to picture Zephra’s planet as she described it to him. “It sounds like a very beautiful planet. Maybe one day I will be lucky enough to see it.” As they continued walking deeper into the forest Matt began to wonder what his life was going to be like after they parted ways and he would still be a wanted man.

Zephra smiled in response to Matt's comment, though there was a hint of sadness to it, not thinking it truly possible. "I'd like that." she admitted.

“So would I.” He said knowing that day would most likely never come, but instead of swelling in sadness he focused on enjoying the time they had left.

Unbeknownst to them a team of agents were working on following them and slowly moving in to surround them.

Zephra lifted her gaze to Matt's, hesitating a moment before she shook her head sadly.

"I wish you could, but I don't think my superiors would ever give me clearance for it. I'm not supposed to bring any living creatures back with me; just plant, water, and soil samples," she explained, "If you made the trip to my planet we'd have no way of knowing when or if someone would ever be able to bring you back home."

Matt nodded when Zephra spoke. “Yeah I figured as much. A man can dream though.” He said. Although if he went to her planet and never returned to Earth he wouldn’t mind that at all. Especially since now after his actions he would be hunted for the rest of his life basically.

Zephra looked over at Matt, the expression in her eyes saddened again, though she attempted a smile for his sake.

"But there are many beautiful places her on your planet as well. You can pick whichever of them you like and I will take you there in my ship before I leave," she promised him again as she took his hand in hers and lead him onward, "Come, we're almost there now."

It was a hard decision for Matt to try and decide. Which place to be dropped off once they got to her ship. There were so many places he wanted to see but he figured somewhere outside of the United States would be best since he was now a wanted man by the government. Possibly somewhere in Europe.

As they walked onward the sound of the waterfall Zephra had mentioned could be heard, soon the waterfall and the cliff side that she had mentioned were within their view, rising up before them.

"We're here," she announced solemnly.

At first nothing could be seen before them except for the waterfall and rock, but then she raised her hand, a glow of blue light surrounding her palm, and a soft chime was heard. Then suddenly some of the cliff side seemed to fade away, a large silvery and shining ship standing in its place beside the falls.

The sound of a roaring waterfall became louder and louder until they were standing right by it. Zephra told him they were here but he saw no ship until she held out her hand and emitted some energy to make the ship appear. His mouth opened as he gazed at her silver ship. “Wow it’s amazing!” He said from behind her

“Echo 1 we have visual on the ship, I repeat we have visual on the ship.”

“Echo 2 move in and intercept.”

All of the sudden the trees rustled behind them and nearly twelve armed government agents appeared and had guns pointed at them. “Freeze! Don’t move!” They yelled

Matt spun around to face them and held Zephra behind him to protect her. He was thinking of an action plan.

Zephra jumped and spun around in alarm as the government agents suddenly came rushing out from their hiding spots and yelling at herself and Matt not to move. Her light flashed and glowed for a second as if she might try to use her abilities, but almost instantly dimmed again as Matt moved in front of her and she noticed the twelve guns all fixed upon them.

"Don't shoot! Please! I mean you no harm!"

Matt was observing his surroundings and the groups of men that surrounded them. Eight of them were group up right in front of them and four on their right. “Oh the count of three close your eyes.” Matt started to whisper to Zephra so only the two of them could hear. “There will be a loud bang then I need you to take out the eight men in front of us. I’ll get the four on the right.”

“One...two...THREE!” Matt then quickly reached down and grabbed a flash bang grenade from his belt and threw it in front of them. He closed his eyes and there was a loud bang which deafened and blinded the men in front of them. One hand grabbed Zephra’s and the other grabbed his pistol as he moved them behind a fallen tree a few feet from their position.

Popping up he took aim and opened fire at the four agents on the right. He knew how these people operated and if the didn’t go peacefully they would have killed him and Zephra. Even if they were taken peacefull Matt probably would have been killed anyway and who knows what they would have done to poor Zephra.

After expelling a full clip of ammo Matt took cover back behind the fallen tree. Smoke coming out of the barrel of his gun.

Zephra had done as Matt had instructed, squeezing her eyes shut at his shout of 'three' and sending a strong, stunning blast of energy out in front of them, causing the eight men to drop to the ground, instantly out cold as Matt grabbed her and pulled her behind the tree before she could even open her eyes. Feeling the trunk against her back and the popping sound of his gun ringing in her ears she finally opened them just in time to see him joining her behind the fallen tree, noting the smoking barrel of his gun. A mixture of remorse and relief filled her. She hated the loss of life, but did not know what other choice there had been.

"Is that all of them?" she whispered, rising to peek over the fallen tree and see if he had missed any.

Everything went silent and it was back to just the noise of the waterfall filling the air. “Yeah I think that was all of them.” Matt said while reloading his gun. He then stood up and unaware that one of the men he shot was still alive. There was a loud bang and Matt was hit in the shoulder with a bullet. He stood on his feet long enough to shoot the man back killing him. Matt then fell to the ground clenching his shoulder. “We gotta go!”

Zephra had jumped with surprise and fear at the sound of the two shots. In the end she saw the agent drop dead, Matt falling beside her and clutching his shoulder. She reached out for him in alarm, worry filling her at the sight of his wound. She nodded in response to his words.

"Before any more come," she agreed, helping him to rise and move with her towards the ship.

With another wave of her hand and pulse of light a doorway and ramp appeared on the side of the ship and the two of them entered. Instantly the door closed behind them and in her native tongue Zephra shouted a command for the ship to take off.

When Zephra helped him up he winces in pain. Matt has never been shot before and the pain was excruciating, a constant burning white hot sensation emitting from his wound. He watched as she waved her hand and the door opened and now he was on board of an alien ship. “Any chance you are able to patch me up?”

The ship lifted up and took off into the sky, but due to the advanced technology of the craft the two of them could barely feel it. Zephra nodded, her eyes full of worry as she took Matt's wound in and the red blood flowing down from his shoulder. She nodded in response to his words.

"This way," she told him, leading him gently down the hall to a doorway. She waved her hand again and it opened, the door opening to reveal a pool filled with softly glowing liquid ooze inside.

It barely even felt like they were taking flight as the ship launched into the sky. Matt nodded and followed Zephra down the hall to a room and his eyes came upon the tub full of glowing gel. He then turned and looked back at Zephra curious as to what it was.
