We all have those crazy relatives we avoid at all costs. During the holidays with all the get togethers it is often unavoidable to have to be in the same room with them.

How do you deal with your "favorite" relation?

Cassidy,
whose brother in-law is a complete asshole:D

Hey, mine too! At least he is on the way out of the family so I won't have to put up with him at family gatherings any longer. Thank God. He ruined holidays just by being in the same house as the rest of us.

No other relatives that I avoid. Most of mine are pretty decent people and I don't get to see them often enough.

I have one relative that I wish I could avoid but contact is inevitable

I'm thinking of baking her some prozac brownies this year.

I had another brother in law that was like that, but thankfully he is out! When I was first married, I was the relative everyone avoided. I think they were waiting for my husband to wake up and dump me, but looky here, 20 years later and I am still here:)

I'm the relative that disapears during get togethers, I try to get away from everyone. I tend to stay near my mom or someone else who talks alote.... then they are talking so much noone can get a word in and say anything to me. (but I make sure this person is somoene who will not talk to me :))

I try to avoid the majority of my family during holiday get togethers. I make an obligatory appearance and then find a quiet corner and a book or I hide in the room most avoided by the rest of my family - the one full of kids.

One thing I like about still being a smoker.. I can go outside to escape....

That is what I use to do at my inlaws.

Things have changed a lot over the years and it isn't quite the ordeal it use to be. I still dread it, but not quite as much.

A little tip from Uncle Lukky

if you can't think of a relative that you wish would not come to the family gatherings, you're the relative everybody else wishes wouldn't be there.

I wish I was the one people try to avoid. It gets kind of overwhelming to have people ask "How are you Really doing?" My stock answer is fine. For the most part, I am doing well. I put up a tree & am actually going to a few holiday events for the first time in 2 years. I usually find a quiet place to just sit & observe everyone else. It is much easier on us all.

If i mentioned all the relatives that I tried to avoid, we'd be here a LONG time. Let's just say, I only like about 4 of them.

I AM

lol i have that whole lesbain thing going for me ... and bringing my girlfriend to these family get togethers ... means im "the lesbian one" :p

actually hehe most of my family is 100% fine some of my uncles (irish) acutally are very good mood about it and enjoy joking especially when they've had a few drinks

theres only one couple that give's me the impression they dont like it they are my cousin and her husband but they are disapproving about everything so it doesnt matter

I'm pretty much the definition of "The Black Sheep"..
Ever since I was about 12 I've dressed all in black, and even though I don't do it out in public, I still do it at family gatherings so they'll leave me alone. I don't like my family much (mostly because they don't like me much), so usually what winds up happening is they get me drunk as fast as possible and put me in a corner somewhere where I can sit quietly and watch the football game.

my family is constantly at war with one another, so i get to be the go-between for whoever is feuding at the moment. most of my family don't know much about me other than i get good grades and work a lot, so they think i'm A Nice Girl (tm). shows what they know :D

I honestly have to say that there is no one in my family that I dread seeing. I love seeing them all at my mom's at Christmas, and it's fun at dinner when we all make fun of each other. Sounds weird, I know, but it's our way of letting each other know that we care.

So if I dress in black, get drunk and watch football they will leave me alone?

Sounds like a plan to me.:)

Well Juicylips, I think when we all get together it amounts to seeing who has gotten fat or who is this years drunk. For the most part my inlaws are ok. Since I only have a brother left, there is no one on my side to stay away from. Their all dead now. HMMM used to hate seeing most of them though....now that there dead, kinda wish I could see them once more so I could hate seeing them....
