You have animal instincts pulling you in one direction, social norms pulling you in another direction, advertising pulling you in yet a third directing.

We eat hormone enhanced meat, drink liquor, smoke weed, imbue caffeine in large doses, not to mention the shit they put in our drinking water, and are expected to be in complete control of our own behavior. We sleep too little, work too hard, and spend more time doing then thinking.

Have you taken the time to stop and figure out which thoughts and actions are truly you and which ones are by products of your environment?

The real question is how many of your actions are yours, and how many were caused by me when I used my zombification ray on your town!

Muahahahaha

Think about what you just said and think back to the first time you've ever heard anything remotely like that. Aren't you just repeating something someone else has said to you before?

And as for "zombification," aren't we already doing that to ourselves?

Nah, I have a special tinfoil hat that blocks people from using zombification rays on me.

That's because he knows you're really mine. I'll expect to see your brand reflecting this change in ownership tomorrow.

And MSN is fine.

Geez, BB, I have like zero control over myself. You know that.

:) I'm so in touch with my inner id and my superego keeps getting a busy signal.

Dragon Dreamer... Your zombification ray missed me, but hit Killer Muffin. :D

Ugh.. once again.. my digital camera is broken. You will have to trust me on the branding being done. You trust me, right? ;)

And no.. MSN hates me. It's not fine.

It did not. I don't eat human flesh.

Lick it, maybe, but not eat it. Black birds are yummy, though. :)

Actually - isn't this really just a rephrasing of the age old genetics vs. environment debate?

You ask: "Have you taken the time to stop and figure out which thoughts and actions are truly you and which ones are by products of your environment?
Have you taken the time to stop and figure out which thoughts and actions are truly you and which ones are by products of your environment?
"

If we accept the question at face value we are pulled into the trap of assuming that we are not, at least partly, created by our environment. Your question makes the assumption that we are totally a product of genetics and that environmnent has nothing to do with who we are.

I got an e-mail from a friend of mine doing volunteer work in South Africa recently, and one thing he said blew my mind. He said he stopped trying to live life and was now trying to let life live him. I thought that was really cool.

Aren't we part of our environment? What and who we are is directly effected by how and where we live. I'm sure I would be a different person if I lived in a small town, or had I lived 100 years ago. Yes I do sleep to little, work to hard, and spend more time doing than thinking. That's who I am. Not my enviornment, ME.
It might be do to my enviornment, my lifestyle ect...but it's still ME.

My question is, does the environment influnce the common person more then they influnce their environment.
