This thread was inspired by a quickie PM conversation with Xander and some mention of comic books on a thread started by Kat...

Anyone play Dungeons and Dragons, Vampire: the Masquerade, or similar?

I'm an avid gamer, and am wondering if Xan and I are the only two on Lit. (Somehow I doubt it.)

Veteran Gamer

Openly admiting this should end up with my capture, mounting and permanent display in the Get-A-Life museum but I'm a veteran gamer from way back. In the early days of RPGs you basicly had Champions (Super Heroes) , Traveller (Science Fiction), Dungeons & Dragons (before the hardcover 1st Editions) and Car Wars which was more tabletop minatures rules for highway combat. There were a few scatters of others, O.G.R.E. , a sort of giant killer tank versus everything and tons of tactical wargames the majority focusing on WW2. Finaly you could put on a cape, pick up a light sabre or heft a battle axe and you were damn happy there weren't all those damn tiny hex covered maps and cardboard counters out in front of you any longer.....

No but I occasionally indulge my self in some FPS violence

lol. I'd say 'consider yourself mounted,' but this being Lit, well.

I have the pre-hardcover first ed D and D stuff. I also have bootleg 3rd ed stuff, and much in between.

I'm hoping that this thread will have more company as we attract more gamers from out of the woodwork...or miniatures closet, whichever you prefer.

The ultimate

AGE of EMPIRES!!!!!!
Civilization; the Mongols Handle; WARBRAID

Been playing for over 5 years; really experienced

Wow, you have a certificate and everything?

You are way cooler than I am.

*hangs head in shame*

lol.

I've been playing for about 17 years
D&D
Star Wars
Champions (4th edition, not the stupid fusion rules)
GURPS
Palladium
White Wolf's storyteller games
Ars Magica
& a buncha others

tho here lately the only gaming I do is on the ORP board

:(

I'm all about WW and 3rd edition lately. But Palladium... sigh. Good ideas, awful rules. Just like Rifts.

And I've only played In Nomine and Munchkin (so fun) from SJ. I gave up on GURPS when I realized that a WW created neonate could whip the piss out of a GURPS created neonate. Odd but true.

We play D&D on occasion, but my husband and I also run an online text based MUD called Kingdoms of the Lost. If you've never heard of one, it's basically an online D&D campaign, more or less like Everquest, only text, rather than grapics. Also, we have never actually seen any RP evident on the graphic games, where as on ours, there is.

Ah, a MUD. That takes me back to Usenet. ;)

Those are fun but difficult to play well... and I avoid them because things like that are apt to suck me in and kill my leisure hours, and even hours that shouldn't be leisure. :)

Yeah, I play. I've been a collector for years. It's my passion in life. Primarily I play White Wolf but I've branched out into almost everything over the years.

I'm a big Mage fan myself, Sillyman.

I was a big Mage fan until they put out that goddamned Revised edition and fucked the party over for all of us.

We are big players here, we start before D&D was called Advanced D&D! Old pioneer like most of our friends that is. Name a role playing game we surely tried it, anyway all the one wrote it the messages up of me we already tried them.

But our playing wasnt exclusively of role playing kind, we do play too board games and table games of all types from Monopoly to Axis & Allies... and all good ones in between.

We did starts too very early to play computer games when they where role playing game text based. Owners of old Commodor 64 and Atari we played too some very old joystics games. Who remember Baldur's gate, the first one?

Yep and oldie here

Well that sucks. I always wanted to translate gaming books back when I still took French classes. I'm afraid my skill has left me though. :(

since then some nice man, like you, did it! in the past you could find thoses games in french but always so long after they came out. Today its a little bit better. Thinking of it, it was like this too for movies but some 10 or 15 years ago the governement make a rule obligating movies to come out in french and english at the same time here.

As for your skill in french you are not the first here to tell me you have lost some or all of it, I think I will start a thread about "Refreshing your french with Déjà" lol

Yeah. I don't agree with all the language laws of Quebec but that's certainly an equitable one.

I always wanted to read In Nomine in it's original version. Too bad that's never going to happen.

Do they have a French version of Vampire: the Masquerade, and if they do, have you ever read/played it?
