Are posting times really long right now?

I submitted my story Sunday (10/29) and it's still pending. Just trying to figure out if I should submit a help ticket.

It depends on the category. Also, authors who are new go through enhanced vetting.

That's less than a week. Well within the curve. If it starts knocking on two weeks it would be worth checking. Also ensuring you're not sitting in drafts; if you make any subsequent changes it resets your position in the queue.

I have had stories published with 48 hours, but eight days is equally likely.

Okay, thanks for the feedback. My first two stories posted in ~3 days, and I didn't know how close to the norm that was. I'm definitely not in Drafts, so I'll keep waiting and hope for the best!

I haven’t posted anything super recently. But I had nine stories get published during October. One took an extra day, but that was when the site had an outage.

The rest were all within 48 hours.

I've noticed that quite a number of stories, where I have clicked on, the story count is 5 or less. So, the enhanced vetting is most likely adding to the turnaround time. Plus, the pages in the "New" category for any particular day can go up to 3 pages. Where, it seemed that not too long ago it averaged around 2 pages. More stories to be checked.

Just my thoughts.

For the first time ever, one of my stories is taking more than a day or two be processed. I've been assuming it's because it's so hot that Laurel is taking her time to read and enjoy it properly.

Alternatively, maybe it's because it's NC/R with a twist.

Right now anything going to advanced checking is going to be in pending purgatory for a long time. One of my pieces was an innocuous how to guide and FAQ that was initially bounced back for referencing a rival website.

I edited it and resubmitted and it has now been waiting in pending since 28th September 2023. (Ironically the piece actually includes a defense of Literotica's moderation practices.)

It's clear that the Halloween contest and the readers choice awards are taking up a lot of Laurel's time, I'm hopeful things will turn around soon, but there has been a marked increase in forum entries of people talking about long moderation waits. Maybe Laurel needs to look at changing how this is done.

Give it about a week, then if it doesn't post a few days more, maybe contact Laurel directly. It's usually contest and challenges get priority and there were a few running, but I think we're between contest at the moment.

Just as a counterpoint to all the 'it usually takes 48 hours for mine but I'm a regular', I've posted ~30 stories this year and they've varied in publishing time from 48 hours to ten days.

I don't think it's as simple as familiarity. I post in a variety of categories (Romance, non-con, mind control, lesbian) and I always post by uploading a word doc.

I suspect it is as much to do with the popularity of that category on the day, the prevalence of contests/challenges (which take priority as I understand it), and believe that some categories need a slightly closer read to ensure the rules are obeyed - non-con being a prime example.

Working theory, anyway.

I could be mistaken, but I think the delay in your case is because you've changed it - edited it - which puts it in a separate, much less prioritized queue, where waiting a month or more is commonplace and even expected.

All my NC/R has a twist. Else I’d not post it. Never been more than 48 hours.

If that's the case, then they're fucked in a not fun way.

You're right that the delay is because of the bounce back, edit, resubmit. That's what moved it to the closer checking route. But I've had this happen with other stories before, and the delay for advanced moderating has never been over a month (even on longer pieces that were closer to the line, I usually only had to wait a week or two.)

I think Laurel's workload has increased a lot, people don't realise she checks every story which is an insane achievement. But I don't see why she couldn't turn to prolific volunteer editors or trusted members of the writing community to do some of the moderation and give her some breathing room.

Then it's back to my earlier assumption: Laurel is just taking the time to *really* enjoy my story. Well, at least someone gets to read it.

Edits are low priority, regardless.
