A bit of nonsense from the London Times to start the week off...
"Bread of heaven brings out the pilgrims
From Catherine Philp in Delhi
THOUSANDS of pilgrims are flocking to a tiny church in southern India to see what they believe is the image of Christ on a chapati.
More than 20,000 people have besieged the Renewal Retreat Centre in Bangalore to catch a glimpse of the “miracle chapati” since it was put on display last week.
The chapati, which carries a charred image apparently depicting a bearded face, had only narrowly avoided being consigned to the dustbin.
Sheela Antony, a Christian housewife, had just come home from church and began preparing the traditional flat bread for her children.
When her daughter refused to eat hers, saying that it was burnt, Mrs Antony almost threw it away, but then saw a curiously familiar image on one side of the bread. “For a moment the burnt part of the chapati looked like Christ,” she said as she welcomed pilgrims to the church where the chapati is displayed. “I couldn’t believe my eyes. With a lot of hesitation, I showed it to my daughters and neighbours, who also said that it was Jesus.”
Mrs Antony took the burnt bread to Father George Jacob, her parish priest, who pronounced it a miracle. He put the chapati in a glass case so that others could see it. Word spread quickly, bringing devotees from across the state.
When the chapati appeared on national television, Hindus and Muslims also began making the journey. “We believe in miracles. Devotees are feeling blessed on witnessing it,” Father Jacob said.
But others dismiss it as nonsense. Vijay Chandrasekar, a software designer, said: “It hardly looks like anything, it’s just a burnt piece of bread.”
Just examine your breakfast cereal vereee carefully is all I can say...
God might be looking at you through the milk...
