Are 5's Too Exclusive?

America is moving to Participation and Team Trophies because awards for individual merit are exclusive. Its not fair.

In the late 90s the British Govt. decided that 50% of all school leavers should go to university. And now they're getting concerned about graduate unemployment.

Corollary: Team efforts are awesome because you have someone else to blame if the shit hits the fan.

...where the children are all above average...

:(

Yeah, yeah, you've heard this before, but y'know that half the entire population is below average. Of course, if you sand with one foot on burning coals and the other foot frozen in a block of ice, then on average, you're comfortable. That's an individual achievement. Would a team effort make you feel better? Would you score the pain levels?

If you have one story rated 1 and nine rated 5, then 90% are above average :)

There are 8.3 million people in New York.

Only 2.45 buildings fell down in the WTC bombing - which is a statisical irrelevancy; so it didn't happen.

And that is why doctors are still permitted to vaccinate with the MMR vaccine.

I would like to see a more honest world. A place where we pull our own weight and earn every single thing we get. Pats on the back are good for encouragement. But they breed lazy souls who do not see the need in trying if all is given to them.

But adversity? Trials? Hardship? Nothing like failure to make you strive to succeed. Nothing like the grit in one's teeth to make them really reach down deep and see if they've really got it. Struggle makes one have to persevere... or wither away.

because rewarding the effort of a child is far more important than a meaningless children's competition. "Good job Jimmy. but your best-time was totally destroyed by a child 2 years older than you."

oh, this topic is about the frequency of 5's on Lit - So, what is your definition of a 5? Is the general consensus on Literotica too common/rare for your taste? IMO a 5 means a high quality story with a minor/forgivable error/s.

I am more interested on whether voting should be open to all to manipulate.

How about: WE TREAT ADULTS LIKE CHILDREN.

Oh, indeed. I'd like to see a world that is more honest, where we all pull our own weight. First things first: open the borders to all those people who will do your jobs for half the price. :)

Open the borders to all with TB and no skills, too.

Somewhere along the way Americans bought the idea that sleeping in your car and gay arts degrees are chic and preferable to profitable toil.

What is it, JB? Afraid someone with the same skill set as you will take your job? :D

When it comes to gardening only God is better, and he often asks my opinion about the tricky shit.

My conspiracy theory on this is that "they're" making everyone weaker and more pliant in order to easily take more control. This, combined with teaching to all the standardized tests, makes everyone weak and ignorant.

I will have a new line of varicolored tin foil hats out this June.

But in all seriousness, it's ridiculous. Everyone needs to be spoon-fed, everyone needs to be told they're okay. It's counterproductive. It doesn't help to drive anyone to be better at anything, because they get rewarded simply for trying. It blurs lines between good and bad. It encourages people to settle. "Well, I got this reward for trying. Someone said I suck, but I have this reward that satisfies my need for validation, so I'm not gonna try any harder or look at what I did wrong."

The disorder is called narcissism. Humility is a wonderful helper.
