You're a superb writer. I still get the feeling that you're having a hard time expressing yourself (Maybe it's just me but the tempo in which I read some of your posts seemed.. It's interesting that you feel there are times when I'm having a hard time expressing myself, because this forum is the most open I've been in a long time. However "open" is relative - I'm spent too many years being guarded and keeping up appearances.

He had a large brain tumor. The surgery left him paralyzed on one side of his body. While he has been able to regain his mobility, he still has no sensation and little control on that half of his body.

He also had radiation and chemo - the radiation disrupted his endocrine system, and that has played a role in the lack of interest. There's also the emotional blow that he needs to overcome. So basically, he has a triple whammy - physical limitation, hormonal deficit, and emotional upheaval at having his life turned upside down.
