I remember our first apartment in the desert southwest. We were on the 2nd floor and had a great view of the mountains. The balcony was fairly large and the "wall" was stucco. So anything below the waist wasn't visible. Well - unless you had a third floor apartment and a good angle.
I got my money's worth out of that balcony.
In the summer, the afternoon sun was perfect for sunbathing. The cool desert nights were irresistible. I'd put our futon mattress on the balcony so we could sleep outside. Though we never got much sleep.
