Apologies and explainations!

EL - you had the Measles??? Damn! Take very good care of yourself, dear!

Lou -

We've been lucky; both our kids have had the chicken pox (varicella) vaccine.

Here's hoping they never even have to deal with it!

(fingers crossed, of course!)

Dr. M. I don't want to take anything away from your very hear-felt sentiments there, but I must just say, I think you're thinking of chicken pox.

Most kids, in this country at least, are vaccinated against measles, because it can be a terrible disease. It isn't good for kids to get the measles. On the other hand, it is good if kids get chicken pox out of the way early in life. My two had it last year, thank goodness. And, it's chicken pox which is the itchy one, not to be scratched, because of the danger of scars.

EL, by me saying this, I hope I'm not unduly alarming you. However, I imagine you being a lot like me, as a parent, and your daughter has been vaccinated against measles - despite all that bollocks that was going on against the triple vaccine.

Gawd, I hope I haven't put my foot in it.

Lou :rose:

Hi, Lou.
You are half right about measles. Regular measles can be a serious illness for aduts and it is not a trivial thing, even for kids. German measles, however, is a minor inconvenience for kids but very serious for adults, especially pregnant women.

Chicken pox is a nuisance for kids with the itching but not very serious. For adults, it can be very serious and actually decimated the native population of Hawaii, where the people had no immunities to the disease.

Anyway, EL, I showed your post to my wife and she put the rolling pin away, thank God.

No, I was completely right about the Measles. I wasn't talking about German Measles, I know that can be pretty trivial, most kids have it without the parents even realising. Georgina had it at six months old. The only time German Measles isn't trivial is if a pregnant Mum catches it.

I said exactly that about chicken pox. It is nothing more than an irrtation, literally. My kids both had it last year, with no side effects.

Anyway, the disease being talked about in this thread is Measles. Just that. And, that can have major complications, especially for children.

I do know what I'm talking about.

Again, apologies to you EL. My intention is not to alarm you.

Lou

I do know what I'm talking about.

Fuck off

(no smilie)

ouch, apologies...

Sorry, it was only meant as a joke, if a very bad one; I don't doubt you know far more than me about this type of thing. I'm sorry if I hit a nerve, not intended...

Tooth extractions! Been there, done that! You have my sympathy. I sincerely hope you get better soon, as I know what it's like to have an abscess.

Tooth extractions? Piece of piss.

Measles on the other hand. No thanks. I'm with Mab on this one. I recall having measles (both varieties) chicken pox, mumps and the unique and dubious distinction of Scarlet Fever, for which the kids in the street were kept well away while I was sent to the 'fever hospital'.

On doctor's advice we were sent to school to spread 'em round, well, definitely both the measles anyway.

Get well sooner than soon English, but make the most of it while you've got it.;)

Thanks, dl. Apology gratefully accepted.

I'm just pissed off about stuff like this right now. I've had enough, can you tell? ;)

Sorry to hear you're in bad mood; you can always count on me to make an irritating comment for you though, dl ;)

Oh, I'm not in a bad mood, just a fighting one. You can always bet someone will say the wrong thing at the wrong moment with me. Afterall, I am a woman. ;)

And I'm a man, fully qualified at saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. In fact, I might go so far as to say I excel at it. C'est la vie.

Wow, EL! Sounds like you're having a rough time.
It isn't good for kids to get the measles.
I know that's right. I had the measles--the bad kind, and I was out of school for 2 weeks. I had a ferocious earache, too.

OTOH, I did have the German measles. I only had a few spots, as I remember, and it was more of an inconvenience than anything else. I was supposed to have gone with my Scout troop to a party at Boys' Harbor, and when my mother saw the spots, she said I couldn't go. I did get to stay home from school and be useless. What really pissed me off was when I heard that the Scout leader's daughter did go to the party, and she had them too, but she spackled a lot of foundation onto her face and her mother didn't notice. And she was the one who gave them to me! Bitch.

A little, but then I'll probably work the events into something I'm writing, and then I won't be.
