Because I'm going crosseyed from googling!

I'm looking to spend £250 max on something for a novice stargazer. Fairly sturdy, tall tripod, easy to use.

If you guys can't help me out, he's getting coal.

I have a regular cheap long assed telescope somewhere but...I have a video attachment eyepiece that works with laptops. :)

Cheaper Cheapest

Brassier and GOTO are the lowest price x out there. Build your own Dobson or culminate a Newtonian ... ITS SHOWTIME?

The National Geographic telescopes are good for a beginner.

Don't spend too much at first. If yet get enthused, spend more but it is too easy to get bored by looking at things you can see better on YouTube...

I couldn't find a telescope made of coal... Or a carved coal arse...

I'm liking the shiny, blue meade so far. Because it's pretty, obviously. And now I know what a moon filter is

Meade make good scopes. And for some reason the 130mm is 15 quid cheaper than the 127 on Amazon.

Not what you asked about but, those Ultra-High Zoom cameras & video recorders are incredible, and can be used for the same purpose as as telescope. Just place it on a sturdy tripod.

That's insane!

Maybe next year he gets a camera...

I'd suggest the Meade Starpro 90AZ. The scope itself is very good for the price. The mount is unstable but pretty much every cheap mount is.
The Orion 90 Versago E series would be another good choice, but it is only available in the US I think.
Last would be the Explore Scientific AR80640TN, good scope, not bad mount ( better than the Meade) but the supplied eye pieces are under powered for the scope.

If you really want a neat "device" for observing, and have a few more bucks the Stellina EAA is the way to go. I plan on waiting for the next version before getting one. Over all it would have been way less expensive than my current set up of my Celestron Evo 9.25,and ZWO ASI 1600 MM and ZWO ASI385MC cameras.

Tbh, the best advice for beginners is some astro binoculars. The field of view is better, and they are more natural to use, especiallyif you have a good tripod. They also have more light gathering power relatively speaking. Cheap scopes are toys compared to even mediocre bins.
PM me if your want more detail.
