I'm scheduled for this upcoming Monday.. gonna put me to sleep cuz I abhor needles in any proximity of my mouth.

Normally I can deal with the pain.. it comes out for 2-3 days then goes away for a few months.. been like that for about a year now. But this last time it came out for 2 weeks and my face was in agonizing pain.. had me on vicoprofen for the duration.

Orginally I was only going to get just the bottom left pulled, its the only one that ever has surfaced.. but the dentist is trying to talk me into just getting all of them pulled. *cringe*

My theory is that if the others aren't giving me a problem, why should I get them pulled? Getting them pulled may potentially cause a problem in itself..

What do y'all think? Should I get them all done, or just the problematic one? I think the dentist just wants his moneys worth...

hmmmm?

I'd have to say to trust the dentist in this case.

I, for one, had a TON less pain after they were out than I did when they were in, but my extraction was relatively painless. And they gave me some NICE pain killers to help with afterward, so maybe it's not that it didn't hurt but that I didn't remember so much.

I had all of mine removed at once. They said my mouth was too small to let them stay there. It was better to get them out then, than to wait till the rest gave me problems. And once the pain and bruises went away,it was fine.

I still have my wisdom teeth. I still have my tonsils. I still have my appendix.

Lost my foreskin, though.

I was lucky.. born without the top wisdom teeth (atleast they aren't showing up on any xrays.. so I'm assuming they aren't there ;) )

About 5 years ago I had the bottom two removed, because one was bothering me. I stayed awake for it.. and was back to work later that day. No swelling.. Not really any pain. (But I also have a high pain tolerance.. so that may be why there was no pain).

I think if I were you, I would have them all removed.. all at once, to be sure you never have any problems. I say get it over and done with now.

Good Luck

I still have all of my wisdom teeth in but, I have had one tooth pulled.

My sister on the other hand had all of hers removed. (Wisdom teeth) and she said it was the best thing she could have done. And, she's the biggest wuss I've ever met when it comes to dental problems.

I'd say go with the one that hurts the most, see how bad it's really not going to be and then schedule the appointment to get the others removed. Good luck, hon, you'll be just fine.

Get them all done at once. Believe me, you don't wan to go through this a second or third time.

I am a totaly puss when it comes to pain in my mouth or jaw.

Mine only surfaced once and I was ready to have them yanked out and be rid of the pain again.

I had 3 of mine pulled last spring. My mouth healed fairly quickly with very little pain.

I think the first full night I was medicated and the pain then was a low, dull ache.

Good Luck Doll

I had my bottom two wisdom teeth pulled simultaneously. I didn't really have a choice, my mouth was crowded and they were coming in at an angle and making a mess of my teeth. They put me under and everything too, I didn't want to be awake for that. I didn't have much pain from the actual operation, it was the return visits to "pack" the area with medicine that hurt.

Looking back on it, I'm glad I had them both removed at once. That is not something I would have wanted to repeat. So, I guess my suggestion would be to just get them all removed. That way if the others ever become a problem you don't have to go through the whole procedure all over again.

I had all four out, in pairs. I was twelve. I didn't want to back for the second round (in spite of the pleasures of sodium pentathol). But dental science has made vast inprovements in the last 33-years.

Lickerish,

I would strongly recommend letting the dentist remove all 4 teeth even though the other 3 are not problematic. I mean seriously... Do you really want to have to go through the surgery all over again in the future.

I had two pulled and the other cut from the bone all at once and it really wasn't so bad at all. I would just go for it and get it over with.

Had mine pulled when I had to have braces, They did it all at once,Put me to sleep and pulled away. I dont recall any problems.

ouch!

When I had mine done I had all 4 done at the same time.

I guess my opinion is that if you're going to have general anesthesia that maybe having all 4 out at once might prevent you from having to have surgery at a later time.

There may be a reason besides financial that the dentist recommends that they all be removed due to their position in your mouth.

Good Luck!

I had my bottom ones pulled when I was 25. The dentist said the top ones probably wouldn't come in. Well, here I am at age 38 and the top left one is coming in and causing me terrible pain.

Even though the top right isn't coming in, I'm having them both pulled on April 12th. I just don't want to deal with this again in 10 years.

Good luck, hon.

I had all of mine taken out last year, 3 days before my wedding. It was the best thing I could have done for my health at the time. Since then, I've stopped having mysterious tooth aches, and migrane headaches.

You don't want to know how much it cost me, but it was SO cheap, becasue I had them done while in Central America.

Gawd, too much info DCL.. ;)

Well, I'm a freak.. I have 2 wisdom teeth in 3 corners, so it's going to take twice the time for him to remove.. I'm a big wuss about mouth pain too, so I'm really on the fence about this... which is strange considering my high tolerance to pain on other things.

PrivateV.. you got $20 a piece? Sucks, I'm paying the guy $400 for alla mine.

The good thing is.. this dentist.. is HOT!.. gawd I was almost drooling in his office..lol.

You could schedule your appointment to be the last of the day, so that you can ask him to take you out somewhere SAFE afterward.
;)

my sister got lock jaw (TMJ) not long after she had hers removed.. not that we can offically blame that as the cause.

anyone have any side effects or bad experiences as a result of having the teeth out?

lobito.. did they knock you out with a healthy shot of tequila? ;)

If they give you enough medication, you'll be drooling for more than one reason.

I had two pulled at once...first the right side, then the left I believe.

That way I could still manage to eat on one side of my mouth....

When I go into the dentist office there is the same ritual followed everytime.

"Hello Misty, please sit down in the chair, relax hon, let me put this gas mask on..ok how does that feel?"

"annoying but ok, please turn in up....." :p

"Ok, well you have been under the gas for a bit now, open your mouth let's getting the numbing done ok?" -take q-tip with pink yucky tasting numbing stuff and swirls it around my mouth.

All the while I'm breathing the gas heavily through my nose ;)

"Ok open wide hon, this is going to pinch alittle, gotta finish numbing you!" -Takes needles and then numbs my mouth with them....

Starts hearing a familar wah wah wah wah sound as my head starts to spin, figure its time to breath through mouth for awhile :D

------keeps gas on all the time while being worked on
------still feels pain
------yet can only feel her head and a silly floating sensation
------has to sit in chair for half a hour after done being worked on before she can sit up and actually stumble out the door :D

Anyways I am majorly numbed when being worked on ;) They know how I am hehehe

I think the only time I ever got sick was when I had my wisdom teeeth pulled too, the pain mixed with meds, and all the gas and blood *Icky* upset my stomach.

It is really up to you sweetie on how you want it done, if the others arent bothering you much right now then dont get them pulled. But remeber if you do have a bad experience with getting this one pulled you may not want the others done, which could also cause more problems in the future.

BTW if I seem to be rambling I am, I dont feel good and I'm high of meds :p I got that neat little floating sensation going on too

I had two of mine pulled at once when I was 25, and now the other two are killing me. I wish I had gotten them all done at once. The recovery would have probably been a little longer , but it would be done with. Good luck, they are not so bad. They just bleed a TON.

no babe, no tequila until later that night. I opted for shots of a different kind, but didn't look at the needle. It ended up taking 7 shots to numb me enough. Final cost, $45 for everything including bottle of Jose Cuervo. :D
