Anyone for a nightcap?

Its Friday...end of a long week. 9pm and I'm choosing to live in Margaritaville... 75 degrees today, but unfortunately no beach. So I have to make do...

bump

water - rough night
back hurts so much I took a mega ibuprofen! I never do that.

I don't think so. I pulled a muscle, I think, doing some heavy lifting.

The it's ice for you, my dear. And a vacation from heavy lifting (good thing wine is served in thin glassware in increments of only a few ounces at a time).

I'll tip my glass of cab to you nonetheless. Would a massage help your back?

ITW, I am very sorry about your back....

MWY, where on earth are you when my back hurts? (grumpy, kind of)

I'm thinking about the fact that I need to leave my warm climate for a brief trip to Chicago next week. I think that's why I'm grumpy. I love, love Chicago. But I need a new winter coat and it is just too damn cold there this week!

Actually, I'm in Chicagoland. It's going to be a little cool this week but the temps will start rising over the weekend and should be in the 40s the week that you'll be here. Unless you're unaccustomed to temps below 70, I should think that a full winter coat won't be necessary here then.

Grrr....

But Chicago is still one of my very favorite cities.

It's not cold until facial hair freezes and breaks off in the wind. Drop me a line if you're interested in hearing about restaurants that most business travelers never take the time to discover.

Thank you. It felt better today.

Therapy tomorrow. Sigh. Tired. Why am I the only one doing the hard work, hmm? Sigh again. I must stop this wah wah why me thing.

Strengthen the core.

My mantra when I choose to observe it. Or when my back hurts.

If you're going to go wah wah, at least do it into a glass of decent wine. :p

Had this very discussion with someone dear to me recently.

Her: *describes her back hurting*
Me: Strengthen the core.
Her: What would you suggest?
Me: Deadlifts.

I usually get the most interesting responses from that. "Don't you mean crunches?" "Nope, deadlifts." "What about *insert random pointless movement*". "Nope, deadlifts" and so on.

In this case, she is a very intelligent person, and understood rapidly.

Strengthen the core by using it, not just moving it.

I don't normally do free weights. At this point I'm pretty jazzed getting my heart rate up with cardio. But, I digress...I always associate weights with arm bulkage. While I wouldn't mind tighter upper arms I'm not going for muscles. So I looked into deadlifts after your post and it looks like a serious core exercise.

Although it hurts my back thinking about it. *Lifting my lightweight wine glass as I type.* :)

You are a woman. Barring a very rare genetic predisposition towards bulk, or a massive hormonal imbalance towards testosterone, you won't gain lots of bulk if you lift.

I just had my post-lift nightcap - 10oz of grilled steak. Yum.

I'll take your word for it....however I have absolutely no idea how imbalanced my hormones are, if you know what I mean. ;)

I love steak (although maybe half that portion....)! But not after 7pm. 8pm on weekends. :D

Just to clarify...after a weird PM...I am not in a transgender state. Still a woman, pretty sure I always will be.. Just a bit - well, I want to say ripe...but that implies very young. Which is completely different when you're standing in the produce section of the grocery store.

I'm more like the produce section.

Another 10 reps of the wineglass....

Probably closer to 8oz in retrospect.

I have to eat. If I don't, I will be sore as all get out tomorrow, have recovery issues, and eat absolutely like a horse all day long.

Gotta feed the machine.

*drools*

steak.

I don't need to lift weights in order to eat steak.

Steak is always appropriate

I'm always in awe of people who have identified their triggers. Your body knows what it needs you to eat and tells you so.

Sometimes, my body speaks French while my brain is speaking Spanish.

I'm working on getting my body and my brain into some serious Department of State like conversations.

I don't either. The lifting simply makes me ravenously hungry (and frequently ravenous in regards to other things), so I like to follow it up with a variety of protein-heavy dishes. I'll refrain from going into details, as some would doubtlessly offend the sensibilities of the good Mr MidWestYankee. I have no desire to cause him discomfort, especially as I have great respect for taste in victuals.

Dear God, steak sounds so good right now. I'm really anemic, and my sorry ass hasn't been taking my iron like I'm supposed to again. I can tell I need it because I'm exhausted all the time, and I'm getting those painful cracks at the corners of my mouth again. :(

I listen to my body regularly. It's the big reason why I can push so damned hard at my age and avoid injury. I'm 35 years old with a 435lb+ deadlift (raw and drug-free), and it's still going up. Not a hugely impressive number in my world, but nothing to sneeze at.

If I did not listen to my body, I would push too hard at the wrong times. A big part of listening to my body is paying attention to what I put in my mouth, and the effects it has on me a few hours later, later that day, etc. I play with all sorts of things in my diet, and even mess with my hormones levels at time. It can be interesting.

But through it all, I listen to me. This sometimes means training when I'm sick as a dog, because I know my body NEEDS it, and sometimes means not lifting, even though I feel good, because I feel the fringes of overreaching and have no desire to burn out.

*blinks* Yeah, get some iron in ya, sheesh.

Steak and eggs anyone? eh? eh?

Best breakfast.

Aw, hell yeah.

Yes...just reinforcing my need for serious Diplomatic action between my brain and my body.
