I once lived in a college flat with a guy whom Iris Murdoch described as her most brilliant ever pupil - he was the main character in one of her books.
I was visited by a French girl friend who cooked meals worse than Laura's look.
She in turn had a passionate affair with an English artist and invited me to the National portrait Gallery where her portrait hung beside that of Iris Murdoch, and complained that, for the artist, Iris was his perfect woman, (which pissed her off no end).
I felt like the only one who knew all the links.
