You know, one of those machines that records your thoughts while you sleep so you don't have to lay there barely awake all night writing and editing a story in your head. It's inconvenient to get out of bed and I really need my sleep. Any leads appreciated.

There was a Robert Heinlein character once that was obviously the writer he'd want to be if his wife would let him. This fictional writer had three super-model looking stenographers living with him, one always on call for when inspiration hit.

Now that would be nice.

ok, so you'd still have to do the work, either way, but at least you wouldn't have to get out of bed...

I really enjoyed that about Heinlein- how blatantly masturbatory his writing became, as he got older.
:rose:

More power to him!

Voice activated recorder. You can get them pretty cheap- Google it.
29.95 at wally world... I've got two, one for the bedroom and one for the truck.....

But don't be surprised if the bedroom one has some very goofy stuff on it....

I want the "thought" activated option so I can sleep while I write the story. Is that extra?

Yeah but it malfunctions a lot and auto erases at daylight most of the time....

It does, doesn't it?
I had a story all mapped out as I dozed this morning. Damned if I can remember how it went beyond a couple of high points in a sea of mist now that I'm actually trying to write it.

What really annoys me is when I know I have a story well under way; with all the description and dialogue and exposition and story elements and details and a few jokes roughed out and half of them done; and then I bring up the file to work on and see nothing but:

"Lust in the Living Room:
boy meet grirl, fuck on sofa
"Holy conw, that"s th remote!"
(carpt burn)"

And I realize that all that stuff I'd thought I had written down is just what I'd thought out in detail my head - I'm still tens of thousands of keystokes form having it anywhere *but* in my head...

Jubal Harshaw, in Stranger in a Strange Land. An uneven book, but undoubtedly brilliant.

I have the greatest ideas (i.e. Pulitzer prize winning stories, Oscar worthy movies, how to achieve World Peace etc.) when I drink. It all makes perfect sense. They are elegant, brilliant solution but then the next morning, all I remember is that I had the great idea/solution, but don't remember it at all. I tried taping an idea once, but the recording was some babble about an ex-girlfriend, so I believe Dr. Evil came in overnight and stole my tape.
