Any Sci Fi fans here?

I admit that I'm a huge Sci Fi and Star Trek fan (which you can also see on my website), and got courious if there are more Sci Fi freaks here, and what they like to see.

I'm a co founder of a local Star Trek and Sci Fi fan club here in my city, and this weekend we had a marathon, where we watched Taken. I liked that serie, and am of course curious to know, if anybody here have watched it`.

Hi ShyGuy
ive heard about Taken...but havent been able to watch it.

i have to say i am somewhat of a Trekkie. although my brother is more so than i. i love other Sci Fi .....Farscape is a good one.

i am a big fan of Star Wars. and i do like SG1. :D

I LUV SF!!

Grew up reading Heinlein, Asimov, Simak, Harrison, Bradbury, Clarke, etc. I enjoy going back and re-reading much of the classic SF. Especially Heinlein's Lazarus Long stories.

Oh yeah...All those and more....

Along with Walter John Williams, William Gibson (who looks like a character from his books), David Weber, S.M. Sterling..etc etc etc..

*sigh* Though I DO miss Heinlein...And Smith..Oh..And Zach Hughes
But most of all,
I miss H. Beam Piper.
Who created an entire universe.. and wrote it down..just so all of his stories would fit together better.

*sigh* If only I actually had the time to read any more. I really do miss having time to read things that I actually enjoyed.

Me, I miss Zelazny. Thankfully there are authors like David Weber and John Ringo, so I don't have to miss E.E. "Doc" Smith. I love a rollicking good space opera!

Am I out of it by liking "The Day the Earth Stood Still"?

I watched most of Taken and i liked it quite a lot.

Has anyone watched Firefly? It's fantastic. It's a sort of space western setting. Unfortunately Fox didn't want to play the episodes in their proper order, which screwed things up a bit. Thankfully here in New Zealand we are spared of Fox. I watched the series on dvd :D

Yes I've seen Firefly on DVD as well, and I agree with you, it's very good! I especially like the engineere in it, she's such a cutie ;)

Speaking of DVD's - Just watched "The Chronicles of Riddick" the new directors cut DVD.

Does it ever piss you off when the deleted scenes are SO much better than the ones they actually put in the damn movie???

There's talk that they are making a movie, because of the phenomenal sales of the DVDs.

Apparently it will be called "Serenity". I'm not sure what the plot is going to be.

Out of all the characters, pretty much all my friends like Jayne the best.

I've also heard rumours that there's an Honor Harrington screen play in the works. Not sure how true that one is -- possibly just wishful thinking. Could be good, and cound be downright terrible.

Acoording to www.imdb.com the movie is in post production right now, and when you look at the website www.serenitymovie.com it's supposed to be out April 22, 2005.

Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game is my alltime favorite scifi book, i'd love to see made into film.

i love scifi, and spend most of my downtime at work reading instead of watching tv. i prefer the new SW books over ST books, but will read anything i can get my hands on.

i waited with baited breath for the BSG miniseries, and was rather dissapointed with it, but have hopes the series will be better.

i haven't had a chance to watch Taken, i don't have a sat dish for my truck yet

:p

Just curious, ghhost_K&H . . . did you read Card's sequels to Ender's Game? Or how about the Shadow novels from Bean's perspective?

I do have to agree with you, though. Ender's Game is a really compulsive read, and one of the few sci-fi books even friends who don't usually like the genre adored. I think I might have liked Speaker For The Dead almost as much (or possibly even more) than EG, but I read Card's Homecoming series over the summer, and was a bit disappointed.

Other science fiction I've enjoyed includes anything by Douglas Adams, classics like 1984 and Brave New World, a lot of Heinlein, and I had a thing for Neil Stephenson's "Snow Crash" for a while . . . though I could never decide if I loved it or was just fascinated by it . . .

Oh, and a short story by David Langford called "Different Kinds of Darkness", another one that people not into sci-fi really seem to like. Anyone heard of it?

But really, I have so many favourites, and I'll read anything . . . I'm quite indiscriminate.

I always thought of 1984 as a direct prediction for the future rather than science fiction. Only George Orwell was 20 years too early.

Absolutely:) Speaker was better than Xenocide, but all three were excellently written books. I've only read the first shadow novel, unfortunately my choice of places to buy books is limited to a parking lot that can hold a 75 foot vehicle, i.e. walmarts, and truck stops, until i'm home that is.

Miss Karen has just introduced me to the Misty Lackey, Valdemar fantasy series, and i've been reading mostly those lately.

Huge Sci-Fi fan here. I love Niven, Heinlein, Asimov as well as newer writers as well. I've only managed to scare up on Doc Smith book, but I liked it. I like the hard sci fi stuff as well as the soft. Julian May's series is one of my all time favorites.

I'm also a big fan of alternate history. I can't get enough of Turtledove.

Anyone else here read Spinrad? Or how about the Wild Cards series?

Damn, such an impressive list. They have certainly fueled my imagination, too.

i've found a couple of the Wild Card books at a thrift store, and enjoyed them very much.

Turtledove is the MASTER of alternetave history, i've read most of his books.

I read several of the Wild Card series. I enjoyed the first few but lost interest as the series progressed.

Hell yeah. Turtledove is the MASTER of alternative history. There's only been one series of his I didn't like.

I forgot to add my vote to say I missed Zelazny. I love the Amber chronicles. Nothing better than to while away an empty winter day reading his pulpy prose.
