I admit that I'm a huge Sci Fi and Star Trek fan (which you can also see on my website), and got courious if there are more Sci Fi freaks here, and what they like to see.

I'm a co founder of a local Star Trek and Sci Fi fan club here in my city, and this weekend we had a marathon, where we watched Taken. I liked that serie, and am of course curious to know, if anybody here have watched it`.

Nope, I've never seen taken, but I've ordered the second season of ST: orignals..

I haven't watched Taken. Haven't even heard of it. I'm an avid SF reader.

I do like how you said SF & Star Trek... since of course, Star Trek isn't included in SF. :p

I think the only SF series that really grabbed me was Babylon 5, and that was only after they upgraded the graphics from the old Amigas, and got in some decent actors who had facial expressions!

I have never seen Taken but I love love love the very first Star Wars. I remember being one of the only girls who loved Si Fi. I love Star Trek the Next Generation, Battle Star Gallatica, and V.

And of course the cult classic Bladerunner is fabulous.

I watch Star Trek if I happen to see it on... but that's about as far as it goes. Never seen Taken though...

I do read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy... George R.R. Martin... Robert Jordan... Terry Goodkind... Laurell K. Hamilton... R.A. Salvatore... some of the new series I follow.

I'll have lightnng strike you if you say trek isn't scifi again...lol! It's the first thing most people think of when they think sci-fi. Then they think Star wars and go on from there. What is Taken...I've never heard of it either. But I'm a hard core RPG addict...that's for sure! ;) You guys should put this thread on the GB.
Later,
El:D :rose:

Ah, Sleepery Jeem, and the beauteous murderous Angelina...

Oddly enough, Harry Harrison also wrote one of the best E.E. "Doc" Smith parodies I have every read: Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers. If you're a Doc fan, then by all means read it!

I sometimes wish they'd make a movie of the Stainless Steel Rat, but then again, they'd be sure to stuff it up. Look at what they did to Dune! *Shudder*

Well I'm a trekki if that counts. Or kinda, I'm not too thrilled with the new one, Enterprise.

K's a huge sci fi fan. Back when we had cable, all he watched was the sci fi channel. His faves are SG1, um a show about people traveling on a living ship - I forget what it's called, Andromeda, and Babylon 5.

love sci fi have been a fan since i was a kid. star trek and all its spin offs buck rogers battlestar yet not to sure about the new series yet.

Could it be Farscape?

I do say that I'm a Trekker myself, and will be going to a convention next year in Germany, I'm looking forward to it already!

I too like Andromeda and Babylon 5, SG1 haven't caught my fancy yet, but it might do that at a later date, you never know ;)

Ah, you kids....hehe. I've been reading sci-fi since I was a kid, which means the 50s. Started out with the Asimov and Heinlein "juveniles", and as many of the pulp magazines like Amazing and Analog that I could find at the local drug store.

Over many years, I've read much more than I can possibly remember. My current favorite authors include William Gibson, Greg Bear, China Miehville, Jack Vance, Fritz Lieber, Fred Pohl, Larry Niven, and John Varley.

Just watched the fine Farscape tie-up-the-loose-ends miniseries on Sci-Fi, and I'm waiting for Galactica. The original was pretty dumb, another space opera. But the miniseries they aired last Summer was very good, obviously written by someone with a bit of military knowledge.

I have been a sci fi geek for many years now. As a pre-teen I was friends with people like Mark Okrand (creator of the Klingon language) and Joe Straczynski (creator of Babylon 5). I went to local Trek conventions and had a blast.

These days, the channel on most often in my house is the Sci Fi Channel! (Although right this moment I am watching part 3 of Brent Spiner's appearance on Enterprise, which is on UPN.) My favorite these days is Stargate (the original is better than Atlantis), but I am still a diehard Trekkie. (In order of preference: TNG, TOS, VOY, DS9, ENT)

There's no such thing as a terrible Trekkie, Grace. Well, maybe the guy who wears his TNG uniform and Spock ears to 7-11 store. But he's not a terrible trekker, he's reality impaired!

I read more sci fi than I watch anymore. But I've always enjoyed Trek, as well as some other, more serious stuff.

Hear hear for reading sci fi, too! I'm currently working on Synners. Just read Daughters of a Coral Dawn and Daughters of an Amber Noon, too. Love Cordwainer Smith.

I'm kneedeep into Ringworld again right now. I like a lot of fantasy writing too. I'm going back and re-reading Feist next, I think. The original riftwar books were the best, I think.

Funny, I just reread both Ringworlds. I always loved Niven, but I really don't care for his progeny.

I am all about the old school, literary sci fi.

I've just finished reading the Forever War by Joe Haldeman and would recommend it to any SF fan.

The graphic novel version is kinda cool too. I also have Forever Peace, which is a good read, but not as good as Forever War. (It's not really a sequel -- more like an exploration of alternatives.)

Forever War was a little reminiscent of Heinlein's Starship Troopers for me.

Ok..I've got a question..And finally enough fans to ask it..

I remember reading the original parts of the Forever War in one of the digest format SF mags (Don't remember which one anymore)...But when the book came out and I read it , it had been fundamentally changed..Does anyone else remember this??

This has always bothered me..mainly because the digest version was better than what ended up in the book.

It was originally in Analog, the author changed the middle section of the story at his editors request to make it more up beat. When the novel was published by avon Haldeman convinced them to restore it to its orginal darker version. Haldeman felt it better reflected the theme of the story and his attitudes toward war which originated in his experiences in vietnam.

Stainless Stell Rats UNITE!!!

I LUV SF!!

Grew up reading Heinlein, Asimov, Simak, Harrison, Bradbury, Clarke, etc. I enjoy going back and re-reading much of the classic SF. Especially Heinlein's Lazarus Long stories.
