Would you see a public insurance option as a good middle-of-the-road approach if it wasn't ran like a tax-payer program but more like an actual insurance company?

No that's what ACA is, I'm saying we need to stop doing that.

For profit corporate models are a terrible design for a public service.

If we are going to do socialism and provide a public service we need to do socialism and provide a public service. We don't need to give a (or a handful) of corporate entities total power over a market with the authority of government to price gouge the taxpayer.

It would be opt-in or opt-out and if you opt in you pay if you opt-out you don't? Basically just have the public option as a low-cost choice available among all of the other choices on the market?

That's too free markety for a public service imo.

It should be, imo, more like public schools, everyone pays.

Poor folks go to the public holes and get the basic needs met. No high end fancy/experimental shit, government issue only.

Those who can afford the nice shit can....and the government gets the fuck out of the nice shit and minds it's own bidnizz deciding which poor people are worth treating.
