Thankfully I grew up with a love of reading. Two things stand out.
The part in Huck Finn where he’ll be damned to hell for helping Jim, but consciously decided to do so anyway,
And Edward Abbey’s Desert Solitaire, pretty much the whole book but he says something like, you learn more about a place by walking 100 feet than driving 100 miles.
There are so many others but those often have had actual bearing on decisions I’ve made
