General Giap died yesterday aged 102. Will President Obama be held responsible?

General William C. Westmoreland summed up General Giap as follows:
GEN W.C. Westmoreland said:
"General Giap, by his own admission, by early 1969, I think, he had lost, what, a half million soldiers? He reported this. Now such a disregard for human life may make a formidable adversary, but it does not make a military genius. An American commander losing men like that would hardly have lasted more than a few weeks....The Oriental doesn't put the same high price on life as does a Westerner. We value life and human dignity. They don't care about life and human dignity."

Giap and Vietnam won, Westmoreland and the USA lost. The difference in human cost reflected the technology available.

Mebbe Vietnam and the USA can both put the war behind them now Giap has died.
