Another synagogue shooting

The San Diego County sheriff's department is reporting a shooting at a synagogue in Poway, California. A possible suspect has been detained. At least four injuries of some sort have been identified.

One person responded to the sheriff departments twitter comment that there are major injuries and that they know some of the victims.

Further down the comments, a white supremacist was attempting to deflect blame.

People everywhere in Europe and former Colonies are getting more intolerant and hateful of opposing ideologies or ethnicities.

I think that you're partially right.

While imo hatred and resentment are coming from both sides (just listen to the resentful, guilt-tripping subtext behind some of the "White privilege" "Christianity is responsible for genocide and oppression")
- it's more pronounced on the part of the Right in White majority countries.
Even Russia's chief of Intel warned about the alarming global rise of far right (racist and xenophobic) attitudes.

I don't know what to think…
Since the NZ shooting, my perception of the society around me changed drastically.
It's like shell shock in a way, I’m more paranoid and I look around me and re-evaluate my past experiences and see so much more hostility and mistrust around me ….

Was it there all along like you said, and people like me (who don’t encounter as much bigotry as others do) are starting to pay more attention? Or are haters are becoming more emboldened and open?
Or is our society changing for the worse?

No, he didn't. The guy left the synagogue, called the police, and waited for them to pick him up. He surrendered without offering resistance.

The suspect fled the scene and called 911 to say he was involved and give his location, San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit said. A San Diego K-9 officer arrived and the shooter surrendered without incident, he said.​

Banning hate speech is a bad idea. These people need to be allowed to speak and have their opinions refuted.
