Miami Channel six today showed the raw video of a police chase after an armed robbery. They finally chased the guy into a crash and he bailed. When he saw the officer right behind him he gave up, diving face first to the ground with his arms spread and waiting. The first officer pounced, pinning him and grabbing his arms to cuff him.

The follow on officers though attacked. They piled in punching and kicking. (Knocking the first officer off the suspect in the process.) You could clearly see the faces of several of these officers.

At the end of the video they cut to a higher up in the Miai Police who stated they would be looking into this and punishing those who deserve punishing.

Contrary to what some say you know at least some of these cops will be losing their jobs. It was all caught clearly on tape. There is absolutely no question that the guy had given up and was subdued. There is also absolutely no question that the police officers on the video, (other than the first officer,) were in the wrong.

We can hope that the threat of someone having tape or cell phone pictures will help cut down on this over time.

I dont think you will ever get rid of police brutality. That line of work appeals to people who love to have power over people. They love the almost absolute power they have over the rest of us. There are plenty of good cops out there just try to do their jobs and stay alive. But all you need is 1 or 2 bad apples to ruin it for all of them.

I have had many police officers as friends and relatives in my life and know how hard they work and unappreciated they are. That doesnt change the fact that, for many cops, when the badge and gun go on, they turn into an us vs them monster. And yes, I have heard cops use just that comment (us vs them) on more than 1 occasion.

Whats the answer? I think they need to do in depth phsycological work ups on people before they even enter the police academy. Would that eliminate the problem? I dont think so but I do think it might highlight the ones who are prone to this.

Well, appearances are deceiving. At the hospital, I was involved in pileups all the time. It happens because the 'victim' continues to resist, usually with verbal threats. So he gets piled-on to make sure he cant get up and act out the threats.

Police departments are slowly filling with do-gooder, care bear pussies who are paralyzed to act.

I didn't see the video Cat but heard it described. I think its a combination of the tremedous adrenaline rush from a chase and the fact that even the good cops know a cop could easily get injured or killed in a chase, or an innocent civilian.

Screening the cops better to get those wanting to beat up criminals out is one way, making laws in all states like some that have running from the police in a car an automatic felony is another.

There will be a police chase eventually, through a school zone or something, and wake people up to the fact that these criminals who run from the police risk YOUR childrens lives. Perhaps with fewer police chases the police will be able to keep thier anger in check, it sounds like the first cop did, the others lost control, not a good thing when you have a badge and gun.
