Another day at the bird feeder

This morning's entertainment.

Some kind of larger bird, tan on top, white underneath, maybe a hawk of some kind, or a falcon. Two crows chasing it, dive bombing it. Lasted several minutes around the yard and neighboring field. They finally gave up and flew off. The one bird continued soaring unhampered.

Crows are hardwired to attack raptors.

Preservation of the species and all that jazz...

On a side note: We don't see too many crows here.

I guess they are not fond of a forest environment...

When I do see them, it's usually out by the interstate.

The cardinals consume more cat food than the cats do; they are like pigs at a trough.

All sorts of birds love the dry dog food too.

The Blue Jays always seemed especially fond of it as did the woodpecker types.

I'm going with Sharp Shinned Hawk. I guess I'll need to start putting some meat in the bird feed.

How big is he? Sharp shins are little guys. This looks like a yearling red-tail, but I'd have to know where in the world you are. Love the thread this started.

Here's a neat guide for identifying hawks. I think you have immature something, so they're hard to ID until they're a couple years old or more. Cool pic though!

One of the doves has a pink dot on either side of the neck. Some sort of royalty I suppose.

I'm finally seeing some Juncos.

They went through an entire cake of suet in 24 hours (or less).
It was my last cake of the case. Now I have to buy more.

They also get under porches and then the dachshunds follow them
and I cannot get them out. I can't even get a shot off...

The snakes I can live with.
The dogs kill them.
