The main problem with animated AVs is the file size limitation. (20480 bytesor 20KB) It usually means no more than three or four frames in your av if you want it the full 150x150 pixels possible. Each additional frame means making your AV smaller than the pixel limitation to meet the file-size limit.

I have no idea, but I have one. Bob_Bytchin made this for me. He might be able to help you.

I have a gif that I was using for my AV, it was two fucking pigs. On everyone else's screen it was animated, on mine however it wasn't.

My bf made mine and tons of others for me. I don't know if you ended up with the info that you needed here. I have no idea how to do it. I just asked him and he said to pm him if you still didn't really understand exactly how to do it.

Good luck.. those animated ones are so cool.. I totally love them..

BTW my boyfriends name is MyEros333.. he has been posting like crazy here on the HT for the past few days.. he just loves it here.. :)

Ulead GIF Animator 5

That's the name of the utility that I've found to work best with animating GIFs for Lit because of the tightrope-thin Avatar restraints. For JPEGs the size restriction is just fine because they've got impressive compression. However, an animated GIF takes up a lot of file size pushing you over the 20,000 byte limit very easily.

Alchemy Mindworks has a GIF animator that is very simple to use for the most part, but for reducing file size and resolution it can make the Avatar very messy-looking with tons of jagged edges and flickers. If it weren't for Lit, I'd recommend that program.

GIF Animator by Ulead is the best I've seen for putting one together and optimizing the images & palettes. Lorelei's current Av of the shower couple is only 16 colors yet still it looks very convincing quality-wise. The program will also reduce the resolution of your frames if you so desire, make parts of it transparent, allow painting & editing, shuffle stuff around, add text, and has tons of preview options including showing you exactly how it will look in Netscape or Explorer or even custom browsers since different browsers can handle palettes differently.

For instance, on the internet, the most common palette is 216 colors instead of 256. So that saves some filesize/bandwidth.

Oh well, try the demo of the program at least and I'm sure you'll be happy with it. Tons of docs & help files come with it as well as tutorials I believe, but the wizards alone will get you off to a great start. :D
