Angry music suggestions?

I admit I'm out of touch with a lot of the music scene these days. Which I guess is funny, if not ironic, given that I'm in the middle of a story featuring a woman who wants to be a musician. Anyway, I have a scene in an upcoming chapter where she's angry, and listening to "angry" music. My beta reader thinks the bands I mention are pretty bad, so I'll look for new ones.

When I'm angry, I tend towards Queensryche (well, that is, if I can listen when the kids aren't around). Beta reader rejected QR as too "old." Well, I am old. ;) Bands currently mentioned in the story are Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, Bullet for my Valentine. Any other suggestions welcome.

Alanis Morissette?

I'm not sure, but she comes across as angry/ bitter in her music, lol.

Marlyn Manson, Disturbed. Beleive it or not Evanescent has a couple of good ones when you're ticked off

Hi PL,

Of course there's Linkin Park
Korn

DG

Thanks for the suggestions everybody. :) I've even heard of some of them, if not actually heard the music. Guess I'll "research" on Spotify or Pandora. ;)

For sheer anger, it's hard to top Rage Against The Machine.

They're 20 years old, but Zach de la Rocha delivers what others have termed, "fiercely polemical music, which brewed sloganeering leftist rants against corporate America, cultural imperialism, and government oppression into a Molotov cocktail of punk, hip hop, and thrash." (Wikipedia) I must concur with that assessment. Besides, Tom Morello is a treasure.

If Ryan is really mad, have her brew some vitriol with RATM blasting in the background. :)

RATM is not a bad idea. My beta reader suggested The Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge, and I went with those, but I could sneak some others in later, possibly. I suppose I should go listen to them and see what they're like. This is always fun with my beta reader, who has little use for the pop music scene.

Hmm, what do you want to convey with angry music. Sorry, I'm "Hmm-ing" a lot in my recent writing. Anyway, there is RATM, thrash metal, outraged pop, etc.

What do you want to accomplish with the music? There is soft angry and hard angry.

ETA: Is there a point in time issue that would date the music?

In Ch 7 of Rhythm and the Blue Line, our plucky heroine introduces the laid-back hero to her parents. Her parents make no secret of their disapproval of her and her career choice (musician), although they like the guy. She is pissed -- much family stuff going on. In Ch 8, she is listening to "angry music." Now, for me, I used to listen to Queensryche and The Crow Soundtrack, but that's not terribly current. I was leaning towards harder rock stuff, b/c she was very angry, resentment-type angry. So there you go. Feel free to read the chapter (or story) to get an idea. :)

No, no time issue except that the story is set in the current day, and she's a pop/rock musician, and so she would likely (?) listen to more current stuff. She's 23, so maybe stuff within the last 5-8 years? I've read that our musical (and other) tastes are fairly set in our teens, so I was going with that.

You know, maybe you should pm TheeGoatPig, he likes heavy metal.
