Borat is brilliant! Bruno and the original Ali G characters are more patchy, but on the whole Sacha Baron Cohen is well funny and knows how to create brave piss-taking comedy. Even the Kazakhs now appreciate Borat and how he's actually poking fun at mainstream America, just like Ali G did at the UK.
Agreed.

Borat had me howling with laughter, as did the Ali G character … SBC has done some eye opening interviews about Borat.

People only like the original Star Wars because most of us were from age 5 to 9 when it came out... It's crap, which I can see now.

It's pseudo babble philosophy done all wrong that people who took one philosophy class in junior college love to make documentaries about talking about how epic it was... but the actual philosophy in Star Wars is the kind of stuff people would just chat about in the student union in the 70s after getting out of the class with that 'hot professor' everyone wanted to fuck... You thought you were being deep and intellectual, but really you were just somewhere between high and horny.

I saw the original when I was 12 and I thought the original trilogy was awesome, and I still do.

I think you have it all wrong. I don't remember anybody back then taking it seriously. I sure as hell didn't, and neither did my friends. It wasn't 2001: Space Odyssey, or even Close Encounters. It was campy space opera, and that's it. There was no philosophy behind it. It's a stretch to even call it science fiction, because there's no science. It was just pure silly fun, like Raiders of the Lost Ark.

You may have seen it differently, but that's how I saw it, and still see it, and that's why I still enjoy the original trilogy movies and don't enjoy the later movies (although I thought Rogue One was OK). They took the fun out of it.

I must add that I have not seen The Mandalorian or Andor or Kenobi, so I have no opinion about those. I'm talking about the movies.

I agree with Simon. The first 3 movies produced were fun. Then they started to take themselves seriously, and it all went downhill from there. Rogue One stood out from the pack, and Endor as the lead in to RO, was pretty good. The Madalorian? Apart from baby Yoda adding some cute comic relief - This is not the way...

I liked "Clone Wars: The Bad Batch." There. I admit it.

I respectfully disagree.
I don't find Borat funny and Ali G is even worse.
Just my opinion of course.

My favorite star wars was the 2D clone wars with the 5 and 15 minute episodes. I liked the rain turning to wisps of steam on Anakin and Ventress' lightsabers.

I tried to get into the Clone Wars, I just couldn't do it.

Grogu is adorable.
There are a few GREAT episodes of The Mandalorian.
Of course, I want to make Katee Sackoff walk bowlegged for the rest of her life as well (hot and a great actress):LOL::LOL:
I like Rogue One as well.
Disney has mostly just frakking killed Star Wars.
George selling it off, is one of the worst things to happen in TV and Movie history.

I've been a Browncoat since 2002.

I just didn't know you were a fan as well.

SD.
I was 4 or 5 then 😊.

Like any good science nerd, I used to read xkcd.com and Randall used to reference it a lot in the earlier issues (I worked my way through from issue #1). I thought I’d check it out and got hooked.

A list from memory of pop culture references In Coleoidphilia:

I’m ignoring the obvious overall Alien / 2001 tone:

  1. Firefly - the FMC bemoaning her sex life
  2. Alien. - the disappearance of the other freighter and the explanation provided
  3. The OA - telepathic octopus
  4. Stranger Things / Lost - smoke monsters
  5. Lara Croft and Horse 2 - well do I have to spell it out?
  6. 2001 - not quite “I’m afraid can’t do that, Dave” but almost

I grew up a couple miles from Staines (other mediocre bland towns are available) and I'm the same age as SBC and the middle-class gangsta wannabes he's parodying. It was painful in its accuracy.

I hear Americans didn't appreciate Borat so much. I suspect it's not so much that Yanks can't cope with a mild piss-take, but that there's a familiarity needed with UK stereotypes of America first to get the humour. At the time, Pamela Anderson was the epitome of American desirability, for example.

But if you appreciate Firefly there's hope for your appreciation of a good script.

I don't know if Kaylee is the "Female Main Character". I think that is Zoe.
Kaylee is a "Major Character" though.

I started watching The OA but it lost me in Season 2.

I haven't seen Stranger Things.
I like watching people's brain short-circuit when I say that. LOL.

That might be the case for some Americans.
I just simply don't like it is all.
I don't think people that do, are horrible people or anything.
Just didn't tickle my fancy.
