An itsy bitsy spider....

Well it couldn't have been an orb spider.
(Quote): From new research it has been determined that after leaving its detachable penis to finish inseminating the female, the male orb spider fights to the death to protect the impregnated gal from rival orb spiders.Without the extra weigh of its sexual organs the male orb spider can outfight and outlast its competition.
Although the male orb spider loses it palp (the arachnid equivalent to a penis, and it has two)it usually wins the fight. In about 75% of these spider trysts the male is eaten by the female.(End Quote)
