An Ignore button for 'real' life

So Mr Keen and I were talking on the bus about this whole issue of trolls and ignoring and whatnot, and how some people won't use the ignore option "on principle" (which is beyond me but whatever, to each his own) and Mr K said "That is fucking great; I wish someone could get me one of those ignore things that I could use in real life." And we started laughing abolut how cool it would be if you could have that, say at work, and certain people who bug the crap out of you, whenever they started to talk you could just see their mouth move but not hear anything. That would be awesome.

Wonder if I could get one of those for my father? I basically could repeat his speeches verbatim anyways, so I could just eliminate the noise level.

Or if someone in your office was on your ignore list, all of their email notices would turn up blank in your inbox. Then if they called a meeting you wouldn't go, and someone would say "Say, you weren't in that meeting this morning" and you could say, "There was a meeting?" and they would say "Yeah, Bill sent an email about it yesterday" and you would say, "Oh yeah, sorry, I have Bill on ignore, I went to Starbucks and got a venti mocha latte instead" and then maybe they might say "Well I don't ignore anyone on principle; I don't want to compromise their free speech" and then you could say "Well too friggin bad for you then, that's why I got a venti mocha latte and your ass was stuck in yet another boring pointless meeting."

Your lips are moving, but I don't hear a thing!

I can somehow do this anyways.

Only I start thinking about what I need to do when I get home, and then I start to wonder what my ass looks like in these pants and if anyone else is noticing it....

:D I think it's a convenient form of ADD.

Not to be picky or obnoxious but did your father not just die recently? If so, ????

That was my stepfather. I call him Dad as well, so it can be a bit confusing.

Wouldn't an ignore button come in handy at the movies or restaurants where people are sometimes just loud and obnoxious!

Or when your ex is rattling on about this and that that has no bearing on real life anymore.

I am sure that I would giggle if all I had were their faces and lips to go by.

:D

My mom just turns off her hearing aid ;)

And another thing - telemarketers, and those who employ them?

All on ignore.

I worked at a big telecom that had the rough equivalent of "ignore".

It was called "Stonewall".

If you were Stonewalled, it meant that people didn't return your phone calls, never met deadlines on your projects, rarely showed up at your meetings and actively did whatever was required to hold you and your work back.

I saw it in action a couple of time and though I thought both people were total wanks, refused to participate, as I found the concept of secretly ganging up on someone cowardly and childish.

But as an individual action, I can become selectively deaf to most anyone if the bore or annoy me.

If life is a series of moments, I am free to choose those moments that bring and give joy, I think.

I can get along fine without a Real Life Ignore Feature.

The one I long for in real life is a Cell Phone Mute with about a 25 yard radius, so that there would be less confusion, clutter, & noise.
