This guy on the radio yesterday is pushing a bill to prohibit gays from adopting. He referred to himself as an ex homosexual, I've not heard that before. Once your gay, aren't you always gay? He made it sound like he was a recovering homosexual. I mean if you decide not to be active that doesn't make you ungay, does it? It's not like being a drunk.

people are allowed to identify themselves as homosexual even after previously identifying themselves as straight ... so it's only fair enough that some people might feel they're straight after all

although i would question the motives of saying you were ex-homosexual ... rather than just straight

but no i don't agree that once you're gay you're always gay

I know, it sounded really weird. He is trying to ban gay adoption and it sounds like he is using that to prove something or whatever..

My gay friend Larry once told me about his ex-boyfriend Patrick, who happens to be bisexual. Patrick left Larry to join the ex-gay movement. He joined Exodus International, this big ex-gay religious organization. Within a year, Patrick was married to a woman and leading the straight lifestyle. He even had a kid on the way. He was still cruising parks looking for sex, while he was supposed to be "working late" according to some pals of Larry. The ex-gays are just lying to themselves. If a gay man wants to marry a woman, be my guest. If a lesbian wants to marry a straight man, be my guest. Ex-gays never mention that bisexual men and bisexual women do exist. They think that being gay is a choice or something brought on by abuse or sad circumstances. My advice to ALL GLBT People : Stay away from them.
They can warp your mind.

Amen :) ;)

Yeah, it was up in the Danish goverment yesterday about homosexuals should be allowed to adopt children or not. And the holy men of the conservative peoples party, went the socalled bla bla bla noway speach, like someof the other crazy parties.

But some of them on the cool side said, we should be a pioneering country, and say yes to it (politicians), instead of a predujice country that we are at the moment.
Heck ever since Axel and Eigil were married, we haven´t done squat to help the GLBT community at all. But some groups are already fighting for gays can be married in the churches in Denmark, and well maybe someday Denmark will be the first country again to do something good for the GLBT community again :)

Here is a thought that would be good, since we have the technology to do it, what about Denmark would be the first country to implant female organs into the male to female transexuals ?

Or real male organs to a female to male transexuals ?

And about the holy groups you were talking about, up untill recently a group called Agape was given money to their "holy quest" to make gays into straights (brainwashing), but there were luckily put a stop there from the state funding of that kind of fucking fanatic shit in Denmark .

Identifying oneself as something does not necessarily make it so. While I don't doubt that there are people who at one point believed themselves to be homosexual, only to discover that they were confused on the subject, that is not what is going on with the "ex homosexual" movement in the United States. Rather, there is an active attempt on the part of some extremist religious groups to exploit the shame and guilt that they, themselves propogate, to convince gays that they can be "cured" through faith and need ro repent.

this sounds like someone who couldn't accept his attraction to the same sex and because of that latched on to something that told him it could be gotten rid of.

The majority of surgeons would oppose such operations. Because very powerful immunesuppresant drugs have to be taken for a good long time, people who receive transplants often are very ill. Transplants, consequently, are usually done only as a lifesaving procedure. The classic illustration is that doctors refuse to do a hand transplant because a one-handed healthy person will have a better life than a very ill two-handed person.

And I am not even sure that an operation would preserve the functionality of the transplanted parts in a body of the opposite sex. I am not aware of any successful transsexual surgeries of this type.

The way America seems to be going, in another few years they'll be rounding em up.

The way the U.S. seems to be going...

For many of us who post in this forum, this means that they'll be rounding US up. Not perhaps as unbelievable as it might seem at first glance. This is something that Dick Gregory suggested when I heard him speak over 25 years ago; certainly we are one of the radical right's biggest political targets - one that keeps working class folks voting for republicans against their own best economic interests.

An example of facism already at work in this country (facism defined as a gov. working in the service of corporate interests) ? Reproduction in service of the State - the head of the Office of Population Affairs has suggested that family planning programs need to begin encouraging college-educated women to start having babies sooner and in greater numbers. Mark my word, in another 3 years, this will become a mandate for programs receiving federal funds... We are already required to "counsel" patients who come in for HIV testing about monogamy and "being faithful" first before discussing condoms.

Oops! Now you've got me started... ;)

I was going to say that I am so glad I live in Canada, then again, now that we have Bush's little friend, Steven Harper, as our prime minister, who knows which way the wind will blow.

So far it has been surprisingly quiet on the queer front from our right wing leader.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Oh Canada!

Hey Lezli,

Would love to emmigrate, but am 2 points shy of what i'd need to do so without having a substantial amount of $ in the bank...

anyway, i suspect that "you all" (excuse, I'm from Texas and refuse to give the term up as a protest against the English lack of a 2nd person plural) - and I digress...

Anyway, I suspect that Canadians, being generally more level-headed than us folks down here will keep him in line. :)

Let's hope this doesn't become an issue, the last I heard was from before the election, Mr. Harper wanted to re-open the gay marriage issue in the House of Commons, and have a free vote on the matter. So far, so quiet.

As to you all, we still use y'all from time to time in Alberta, but not so much as even a decade ago. Texas and Alberta have close ties, between the cows and the oil, and looking a lot the same in some parts. Tend to have the same in your face attitude at times too. Although swinger clubs are legal in Canada, and I have heard that in Texas you can get a sex offenders listing if you get caught in a raid. Shheeeessh, let's concentrate on the real criminals eh.

Sounds like this guy is either an idiot, confused, or in total denial. True, one just doesn't suddenly turn gay or for that matter suddenly turn straight. Homosexuality whether inborn, innate, or genetic is there from the very beginning. And by saying he is an "ex" homosexual or worse a "recovering" homosexual implies that being gay is like some type of addiction, disease or disorder.
If he's an ex and recovering homosexual, then he's one that's still shut in the closet.
