One of the first movies I remember seeing with an AMWF couple.

For your consideration: Here are two films I've seen in the last year with an AMWF theme.

Never Forever

I'm a fan of Vera Farmiga, and here she stars as a woman who hires a Korean immigrant to impregnate her and give her and her Korean-American husband the baby they both want. Not as hokey as it sounds. Well-acted. The ending was one of the most challenging, ambiguous endings I've seen in a long time.

Shanghai Calling

On the lighter side, he's a completely Americanized Chinese, and she's worked in China so long, she's gone native. She speaks the language (convincingly, btw), she likes the food, she knows her way around the system. They're both so damn good-looking, and the dialog is mostly good, even if the humor falls flat from time to time.

So I watched that TV show 2 brokes girls recently, and am appalled that they are STILL sterio typing Asian men like that. Most Asian men act nothing like the diner owner. The jokes are so fucked up that I had to turn that shit off.

There are similar appalling comedies, like "Fresh Off the Boat", which makes me not thrilled of the Asian stereotype...

I know it's been a while, but I FINALLY got around to watching never forever and Shanghai calling. Both were great. Never forever is a little on the sad side, but still beautiful. I wish they would start making more interracial movies. It's beautiful and needs to be celebrated. Plus the world is not how it's being portrayed anymore. I see just as many mixed race couples nowadays as same race couples. Cinema needs to catch up and stop thinking every couple needs to look like Barbie and Ken. Oh and by the way...I HATE zombie anything...but Maggie and Glenn from The walking dead make my heart race...
