America's inevitable war with Iran

My earlier comment:

Outwardly reminding provocateurs they can exceed their limits and that our rules of engagement are alive and well, Just a gentle nudge.

Doing it through back channels is the more traditional way of warning rogue nations to cut the shit out.

However, declaring it for the world might reduce Monday Morning Quarterbacking. Nah. President Trump using oxygen is debated so...

I suspect the "back channels" have been exhausted. Time will tell but I think our taking out their Chief Terrorist in Charge has lent Trump some credibility.

Ultimately, what is Iran's end game besides fomenting continuing (and on-and-on) turmoil in that region? Or is it just a proxy?

They dream of a greater Persia under Shia' rule. They aren't a proxy for anyone. The irony is that they don't seem to remember that one of the things that made Persia great was religious tolerance. "Dance to whatever idol you want as long as you pay your taxes."

Trump has done that. He's been trying to get Iran to come to the bargaining table for quite awhile now by using both public and private pressure.

Iran is bluffing and trying to show the world that they're as mighty as the US.

The world listens because they're fuckwits on all things United States and Donald Trump. This encourages Iran to continue their stupid behavior which is going to get people killed.

Not that Iran gives a shit about that.

Iranians are just as interested in Freedom & Prosperity as Americans.

Unfortunately, they have oil, so they're a target for the USA.

This is idjitry.

If Iran were solely interested in just Freedom and Prosperity, they wouldn't need to be holding rallies chanting Death To America, sending terrorists around the world, or engaging in proxy wars against their neighbors. They wouldn't need nuclear weapons, or ballistic missile technology.

And neither Russia or China would have any interest in that region militarily.

We have oil too, we don't need their steenking oil.

And if they were all that interested in freedom and prosperity they'd overthrow those insane crackpots running their country.

They're just defending themselves against Great Satan-sponsored aggressions.

Iran's not in the war starting business, never have been.

If you want to produce a list of all the times the Iranian armed forces have entered other countries, I'd like to see it.

There is this in addition to what has already been posted:

" Iran and Hezbollah have already demonstrated a willingness
to conduct terrorist attacks in the Western Hemisphere.
Consider the recent foiled plot by a Hezbollah operative in
Peru in October 2014 and the attempted attack linked to an
Iranian diplomat in Uruguay last month. Or recall the 2011
attempted assignation of the Saudi Ambassador to the United
States in Washington DC and the foiled Iranian plot in 2007 to
blow up the John F. Kennedy Airport in Queens, New York."

I suspect Trump was also sending a subliminal message to Russia and the constant buzzing of our ships. Just a thought.

Decades of war or constant turmoil has not moved the "greater Persia" goal any closer to reality. However, the 24 month flood of immigrants into Europe seems to have changed dynamics considerably. Not that all the immigrants are Shia, of course.

Tolerance was one of the unknown hallmarks of the Persian Empire.

However, in a binary world tolerance is not always considered a virtue.

Though I am no fan of Beelzabub - nor dark angels in general - he/it is an easy target for blame and accusations. It's hardly fair.

I've always found that the guy is polite and pays his bill on time. He is pretty merciless when the rent is due though.

Don't blame him. Stealing souls pays low and has huge legal fees

I don't think I'd want to be part of the next Iranian boat swarm:

US has gunships ready to deliver on Trump's warning to Iran

By TONY CAPACCIO | Bloomberg News | Published: April 25, 2020

WASHINGTON (Tribune News Service) — Even before President Donald Trump's vow to "shoot down" Iranian speedboats if they harass American ships in international waters, the U.S. Navy was bolstering its ability to call in AC-130 gunships and Apache attack helicopters to defend its presence in the Persian Gulf.

A practice run for the new tactics on April 15 drew 11 gunboats from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that crossed the bows and sterns of American vessels at close range. And that prompted Trump's tweet on April 22 saying he'd "instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea."

Going back to the Obama administration, Revolutionary Guard members in small but agile speedboats have harassed U.S. ships, but the encounters usually have ended with warnings from the Americans to back off. As far back as 2007, the Office of Naval Intelligence estimated Iran had a fleet of 1,000 small boats that was growing. In early January 2017 a U.S. Navy guided-missile naval destroyer fired warning shots at four Iranian rapid-attack craft in the Strait of Hormuz.

The live-fire gunship exercises began in March as a first-time effort at coordination between Navy patrol coastal ships, the service's P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft and the Air Force's special operations AC-130 gunships, which are capable of nighttime attacks. Armed with a 30mm Gatling gun and precision-guided munitions, the famed gunships have been used to attack ground targets – but not naval targets – from Vietnam to Grenada, Panama, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Let them boast. If push comes to shove, Iran is screwed and they know it.

That however changes if they get a nuclear bomb. Iran as a nation will still disappear but so will a lot of other people.
