American Exceptionalism

America is not an idea-state like the Soviet Union. America is an ordinary nation-state like France, which has been through at least ten regime changes since 1789 yet still remains the same country. An America under a different constitution or even a completely different system of government would still be America.

I completely disagree. France is France because they have, for the most part, been one people, one culture. The US is made out of other cultures (like Frankenstein's monster :D). If one of those "other cultures" becomes dominant enough to drastically change the Constitution, then we are no longer America.

That av is a joke. It's the douche boho reading list.
I note that two of them were on my summer reading list for prep school. Perfect.
Monica Crowley?

LOL

Please.

And I find it highly disrespectful when you neotards call the President....Mr. Obama.

And you know you do it to be disrespectful so as soon as I hear that all credability goes out the window along with the piece.

Like Junkmail.

What's disrespectful about that? Presidents have always been referred to that way. We had eight years of Mr Bush and eight years before that of Mr Clinton.

Of course its disrespectful. Presidents have never - in my lifetime anyway - been addressed like that.

It's Mr. President or President LastName. Nobody addresses as "Mr LastName" unless they are being disrespectful.

FFS, read a newspaper. That's how they address all presidents. Typically the first reference uses the title President, then after that it's either "Mr. ___" or "Obama."

Translation: Once caucasian male hegemony is no longer the standard in America, then we are no longer America.

I knows how you like them Spanish girls, Rosc. "Spanish" meaning the Spanish girls around Avenue C and Houston. :D

In my day there were all kinds of spanish hotties on that block.

Me thinks the yuppies have sent them packing though.

I never, ever thought I'd see the day when there would be velvet rope door restaurants in that area. Every time I walk around there I still bug the fuck out. I can't even remember where The World used to be.

Are you serious?

When whites become a minority in the United States, the Republican Party will have had it. I don't want to wait that long, however. I want the GOP to get it earlier. :D

One point five million.

Iremain a victim isn't bothered.

That is a lie, and a damned lie, too. A nation is an ethnocultural entity, not a political entity, and the American nation existed long after colonization but long before independence.

The Polish state was partitioned in the late 18th Century, but the Polish nation survived all those years of foreign rule and was ready to be expressed in a nation-state in 1918.

The American Nation is like that. It existed long before independence from Britain, and all subsequent waves of immigration have assimilated to it.

Wrong. You're thinking of a country. A nation is a political entity and a state even more so, though most people think all three terms are synonymous.
