An American friend of mine visited the Middle East and saw large signs saying "American goods" in all the stores. He thought, "These Arabs are so patriotic in times when the Americans are threatening to blow up the whole Middle East and these storekeepers are promoting American products."
Uhm . . . actually the shopkeepers were identifying their American goods so that their customers could buy products from other "friendly" countries . . .

What America doesn't seem to realise is that...
the Arabs tolerate her. Nothing more, nothing less. As she's a difficult country to ignore they go down the route of putting up with a bad job...
The Europeans have an extremely long history of dealing with the world of Islam, both in conflict and in peace and between the two cultures there has grown an understanding that the US is lacking. Israel really is a major problem for America, and if she wants to gain any real influence in the Arab world she has no choice but to withdraw her wholesale support for that country.

Very true. The european history of colonization and nation creation in the middle east make their role there arrogantly superior to the United States. That is true until you realize that the United States is the only state in the world with the influence, money, and power to have dynamic influence in the middle east. Perhaps if the leadership of the Palestians actually told their people about the deal they walked away from with the Israeli's they might not so easily continue in their victim role. Under Clinton the Israeli's would have given the palestinians 90 percent of the west bank. The deal did not include Jeruselem but even their they would have been granted autonomy. Arafat turned down the deal. Why? I think the palestian leadership needs the conflict to survive. They have to live up to their own propaganda which is far more militant and rediculous than the sain face they persent to the west.p_p_man said:

Who cares if the Arabs trust America or not? Americans are the infidels with or without Israel, dumping Israel would not help.
As soon as hybrid cars start selling well enough and the US reliance on fossil fuels is a thing of the past, no one will give a shit about any arab country. They can all go back to killing each other just like old times.

Well, the truth is we're all ignorant because we honestly don't know what the politicians are thinking, or what their motives are. All you can really say is they sure as fuck don't want us sheep knowing about their plans, arab or american, because they'd get murdered and replaced by other dirty politicians, and we might as well keep the same dirty ones for peace's sake. Honestly, unless you're a politician or you back one financially, you don't really matter or know what the fuck in any political matters.
