Amelia's "Good Stuff That Comes On PBS" Thread

Ok - I watched the 'Theory of Everything' last nite - twice. Well bits and pieces twice. They get to a certain point and my eyes glaze over and I feel like I'm in high school Algebra. Most of that stuff goes right over my head. It was interesting but I kept thinking - ok first it was molecules, then atoms, then protons, nutrons etc, now these strings. Are they just going to keep finding smaller and smaller stuff that we are all made out of? I say - its small enough! lol

But I loved the idea of the many planes of exhistence. I've always felt that was true - ever since reading Dr. Seuss "Horton Hears a WHo" as a child. It sure explains a lot of weird things that have happened in my life!

I love PBS (and NPR -- but that's another thread). However, I must warn others against watching the sadly horrendous flick, "Boudicca: The Warrior Queen." It's playing on Masterpiece Theatre right now. Awful, awful, awful. I can't believe they didn't do me justice.

Prairie House, Victorian House, Manor House -- all wonderful reality shows for the wannabe high brow. Also educational, to boot.

Was that the one with Alex Kingston as "Boudicca"?

That's the one. Don't even get me started on how false the portrayal was -- not just of Boudicca, but of Nero.

I knew it was false about Nero, but I'm not well-versed enough in my readings about Boudicca to comment on her.

Hanns is more than an exception, he is a freak of nature. If I were to to date a woman who didn't watch PBS then I would shoot myself for having such poor taste.
I'd say easily half the men out there don't care if she watches PBS or not. I wish PBS were more popular.

I for one consider it a major plus. Hell, I should watch it more often myself, seeing as I live and breathe the educational pay-channels like TLC, THC-W and so on.

I just finished watching the rest of The Elegant Universe. Overall, there were a lot of really great ideas presented. I enjoyed watching the physics guys almost wet themselves explaining what they thought about string theory (M theory).

I liked it. I'd like to spend some time with those guys...just talking (of course).

so, is the string the thing? do we live in a membrane trapped inside of a larger higher dimension? could the big bang have been those membranes crashing together?

who knows. it's just a theory...for now.

is this where WaxNWane got his nickname for me? if so, what does it mean?

anyway, the show looks to be interesting.

(yup, this is what i'm doing instead of working on my paper)

The Methuselah Tree

The Hermitages Art series was really good yesterday.
Orchid Hunter, I'll look into that.

i have to admit that i did watch approximately 15 minutes of Ann of Green Gables on PBS today before i fell asleep on the couch.

i couldn't find the remote and it was cold in my apartment and i was all snuggly under the blanket... it wasn't worth getting up to change the channel

Many Thanks to St4nton for lots of things, but this time

especially for telling me about this.

Ben Harper on PBS. It's on tonight here, but it may be on other days where you live.

"For his solo Austin City Limits debut (Harper played slide guitar for Taj Mahal on a 1993 episode of the award-winning series), he performs songs from his newest CD, Diamonds on the Inside, plus fan favorites from throughout his career. "
