Ambushed by a bear?

There was an incident here a few months ago that told me just how ignorant our law enforcement officials are.
A local deer hunter claimed he was jumped by a bear while climbing down from his deer stand. His legs were mauled and he made a full recovery. He was able to kill the bear while trying to climb back up the tree.
I grew up hunting and don't hunt anymore. I'm a backpacker and spend alot of time outside in the woods. The bear species here is threatened and few are this far south of the state.
But ambushed by a bear? A hunter climbing down and not hearing something walking around or seeing an animal around the stand? Then in his ability to save himself, shoots the bear with his rifle while scampering back up the tree?
No charges are being pressed on behalf of the bear being shot by the state, and no charges are being pressed for shooting a threatened species. A search was done to see if cubs were involved but none were found. He's now the hero of his redneck trailer park.
This is a species that avoids man in Alabama and there are very few of them left. Unfortunately, we now have one less. And one more stupid redneck hunter who I feel shot the bear and climbed down to finish the job. Unfortunately, the bear lost the fight. The autopsy showed no results of disease or anything wrong with the bear.

Oh jeez. I find it really hard to feel sorry for anyone who gets "attacked" by a bear on the bear's own turf. Like the brilliant elk hunter who got in between the mama bear and her cubs a few years back and decided to punch the mother bear in the face when she came after him. Please, can you make yourself look like more of a tasty snack, dumbasses?
