Friday night a friend of mine invited my wife and i to her partners birthday party, it was held at a gay/lesbian bar, my wife and i are straight and went because it was our friends birthday, had fun until as we were leaving one of the men made the crack to me " breeders slumming at the gay bar on a friday night, how quaint" i got really pissed off. yeah, i'm a breeder so were his parents, is it wrong of me to expect to be judged for who i am and not my lifestyle choice, is'nt that what everyone in the gay community is always asking? No i would'nt normally go to that bar, but for christ's sake was it that big of an intrusion to feel the need to piss off the "Breeders" as they were leaving? Sorry, i guess i'm still pissed, i was'nt there to judge anyone and i guess i did'nt expect to be judged myself.

am i wrong to be upset?

No, you were not. There are jerks of all sexual persuasions.

With that kind of comment I find it's all in the tone of voice whether they were intending to be offensive or not. If it was intended as friendly teasing, then one should either try to see the humor in it or reply in kind, but if it was intended to express contempt or dislike then being offended is appropriate.

I believe it was in the offending tone, since who would in there right mind say to persons who were leaving. That comment ? It would be like, if a friend and me . Got from an Irish pub, and suddenly we got a comment like " oh two poofters leaving hand in hand how cute". And in reality neither of us are gay, I am bi, and my mate is straight. So yeah, I would be offended too. Just like electricbiker was offended. Why am I saying that in that way ? well because I don´t like to be called names, and well that is it. On that note, but I just hate the name calling games. Whether I was a gay man or not. So yes electricbiker is not wrong in being pissed off, of what he experienced.

prejudice and orientation discrimination happen on both sides of the fence.

i have this piece of advice:
people are assholes. straight people are assholes, gay people are assholes. black people are assholes, white people are assholes. women are assholes, men are assholes.

it's perfectly all right to be pissed when someone's being a jerk. i'm an equal opportunity people-hater.

When I first started reading this post, I thought it was going to be "am I wrong for going to a friend's party that was held in a gay bar?" And my answer was going to be "absolutely not!" I'm glad to see that the question was actually "am I wrong for being mad" because that's a good question..."wrong for going" is silly, "wrong for getting pissed" is reasonable. :)

No your not wrong. There are gay people lesbians and even transpeople i don't agree with. There are militant gays and lesbians that refuse to accept people that are opposite then them they would rather be separate and equal then to mingle with society. Then there are others that just want to be left alone and treated as equals.

One of my gay friends who was bi had a very negative view on straights women or women in general. He looked down on them and viewed them as less then men. He thought i was a normal male so he talked to me and treated me right but he frustrated me to no ends about the way he thought of women. If he still worked with me i would of spoke up and started defending women but at the time i was to scared of my own secret getting out.

So there are assholes on every side of the fence.

100% agree... Their are assholes where ever you go but we can't judge a race or sexual preference or any other group because of 1 asshole..

Remember: 1 bad apple does not destroy the whole bunch or however the saying goes...

I do want to add one thing. I am very impressed by the way you handled yourself.

Yeah, it's fine to be upset, just don't let it turn you off the whole scene.

Just a side note: Is anyone else put off by the term "breeders"? For some reason it disturbs and irritates me.

Oh yes, that word is disturbing, and irritating to me too.

I find it slightly annoying

Well what else are we going to call you, straighties? There are so many names for gay people, we gotta call you guys something! :nana:

As long as you and your wife were being nice to everyone, that guy's comment was completely uncalled for and rude. Put it down to another drunk jerk. They exist in every community.

As for the term "breeder", personally I find it pretty stupid. I wouldn't want anyone to call me "faggot" and I wouldn't call straight people names either. We're adults, not pre-schoolers; anyone who calls people names is just a dumdum-head. ;)

LOL

I have "bred" a fantastic son & the term is odd, but I couldn't imagine not having my child, straight, Bi, or Gay. :D

Hmmmm Mrs. I believe you should behave. Since I take a bit offence by that statement, and I do see myself as a bisexual. Even though I am a bisexual virgin. What if the straight people began calling you "rubbers" ? (as in to rub) like Danes called the lesbian lovely women , before they took a stand, and demanded to be called lesbians. Anyway Etoile I don´t like being called names, whether I was heterosexual or anything. And I wouldn´t call people anything, but their first name, and if I knew their sexuality, then I would keep it private, as long they wanted it to be that.

Yeah, impregnation and pregnancy is one of my major fetishy interests, so my first reaction is "Huh why would anyone not want to breed? Gay or straight lots of people long to make babies." But the part that disturbs me is I think it ties into this cultural idea that the world would be better off if humans were extinct, and so having children is like a sin against the environment or something that's greedy and thoughtless. Like in Final Fantasy 7 where the 'good' ending is where all humans get wiped out and instead the world is populated by intelligent lions who don't have hands and so can't make dangerous technology. That's an attitude which I can't help but think is deeply disturbed.

What? Are you serious? THAT's the ending? And you just spoiled it for me. So unfair, I'm almost at the end of the game.

o_O You're seriously playing it for the first time right now? Sorry for spoiling it, it's 10 years old so I figured everyone who was going to play it would have played it already. Anyway it's not really the ending, it's the ambiguous little scene you see if you sit through all the credits. The actual ending is a climactic battle as it always is in this type of game.

The only time being called a name has any affect at all is when I give the name-caller the satisfaction of letting him see me get upset at the intended insult.

Well, another time is when I go home and let it eat at me in silence.

What I'm saying is; Who cares what some jerk you don't even know says? Every moment spent in anger over something like this is a wasted moment.

(but then again maybe I shouldn't vote on this thread at all, 'cause I love it when my wife spanks my butt and forces me to suck her dildo while calling me nasty names like "you cock-sucking queer".)

Maybe you misunderstood my point. I was pointing out the irony of being upset by gay people calling straight people "breeders" given all the nicknames and derogatory words that have been used for gay people over the years.

Bulldagger, dyke, bulldyke, homo, queer, faggot, lezzie, fairy, fruit, pansy, poofta, nancy, carpet-muncher...just to name a few.

You have every right to get upset about the word breeder, but I hardly think gay people originated the sport of epithets about sexuality. THAT was my point.

You are correct on that point, it was probably the straight/heterosexual people who started that. And a poofter is a word I would get angry too, if I was called that. That is why, I don´t like calling people names , except for those "normal" ones, such as idiot jerk (and so forth) if I am pissed at a person. But when it comes to the sexual derogatory names, then I shut my mouth. Since I think it is stupid dragging those names up. And yes, I did misunderstand you.

Hmm.. I think it's acceptable and playfully light hearted to call people who breed, breeders. Lighten up. (Just my unsolicitted two cents.)

you're very welcome.
