Fay has started the lips flapping in work and in the park. (As I heard when I got home from work today.) People are flopping about getting supplies and freaking out. The end of the world is coming.

People have accused me of not thinking and of being too complacent because I'm not freaking out. They don't know my preperations.

My Mobile home is as well protected as it can be without burying it. I have multiple storm cables over the roof. (Six of them.) These cables go from 48 inch spade screws/anchors, over the roof then back to another spade screw/anchor. (Well cribbed on the roof to spread the force.) These not only hold the roof down but they stabalize the Trailer. The trailer also has 24 anchors and straps underneath.

All windows and doors have shutters. These are anchored through the wall studs, and not just to the skin. They will be closed when it is needed.

As for supplies. Well I am ready. For my wife and myself we have enough freeze dried food for a couple of months. Water will be filled when it is needed. (We have enough containers for 50 gallons.) The generator was serviced a couple of weeks ago. We have cat food and Kittly Litter for several weeks.

Propane. We have six extra tanks, all full.

Gasoline. We have six 6 gallon cans that are kept filled at all times. (They are treated with Stabil and rotated through the car. Every time the car needs gass we dump two cans into it then refill the cans.)

No I'm not freaking out. I've been through this too often.

Cat

Oh and I have enough adult beverages to keep me in a nice fog for at least a month.

That last is the important part!

I went through a tornado once with about that many starps and cables The traler I was in was the only one with out any damge. the one that was next to use went missing, but then it was not straped done in anyway.

I don't think you will be going anywhere:D

As usual, you da man Cat! :D

Altho the latest track on Fay has it hitting the Keys and the west coast...it pays to be prepared. We have a generator, batteries, communication equipment, food, storm panels, gas and propane tanks filled and are on county water supply.

Let the winds blow.

Good luck buddy. ;)

CAT

I live in Tampa.

I made a survival kit that fills a large plastic box. I keep the box in the car.

The kit contains all the essentials: water purification tablets (w/koolaid), a sterno stove, an old coffee perculator, paper plates and plastic forks, a tarp to make a shelter with, two army blankets, a hatchet, some basic fishing tackle, basic medications, a machete, knife, cigarette lighters, and a weeks worth of canned food. I also keep rolled coins in the kit...Quarters and dimes. Plus a few little items that are handy....disposable rain coat and a mosquito hat.

If I have to go I know I can make a camp somewhere.

Can we come party with you?

:)

Seriously, Cat, it all sounds good.

Just take care of you and the missus and the kitties. I hear they are starting to evacuate?

:rose:

you can never be to over prepared. If you prepare well once then there is no panic the next time. With a few fixes here and there or general checks makes it easier to maintain.

The kitty litter is the most important part :D

edited to add: have you a radio or way of keeping in contact with someone who can pass the word onto us? If the storm hits that hard, it's unlikely you'll be able to get on the internet and we'd like to know you're safe.

It sounds like you're about as well-prepared as anyone can be, Cat.

Supposedly, my neck of the woods is in the middle of the cone, but I figure by the time it gets that far, it's going to have devolved into rain.

Evacuations in the Keys.

The last tracks look like it's going to swing west of us here. We'll be getting some rain and maybe Tropical Force Winds. Might lose power but we'll see.

I'm watching it but not overly worried.

If the Weber grill is anchored you're good to go!

Hurricane recipe
1 oz vodka
1/4 oz grenadine syrup
1 oz gin
1 oz light rum
1/2 oz Bacardi® 151 rum
1 oz amaretto almond liqueur
1 oz triple sec
grapefruit juice
pineapple juice

Pour all but the juices, in order listed, into a hurricane glass three-quarters filled with ice. Fill with equal parts of grapefruit and pineapple juice, and serve.

Now that brings back memories...no Mardi Gras was complete without downing several of those from Pat O'Brien's and wandering happily snokkered thru the crowded streets collecting strings of beads and everyone filling your glass.

Of course you'd wind up barfing on your shoes during the Krewe of Proteus parade...but that was part of the ambiance. ;)

It's actually been a long time since I had such a drink, but I'm open...though I do get a bit crazy.

I remember a blue drink in a really big glass in a bar in Manhattan and the next thing I knew I was making whoopee with my fiance in an alley that turned out to be a corridor to tucked away apartments. Luckily, nobody opened their door. ;)

Good luck, Sea. Sounds like you've done all you should do, and can only relax and wait it out.

Well, I guess I'm ready.

Just got back from walmart. I figured it would be less crowded at this time. WRONG!

But I did get some more bottled water and a few other items that I had used up from my hurricane supply kit.

There were no D batteries to be had. But I still have some.

Full tank of gas plus five gallons.

Gotta go by the liquor store tomorrow to get a fifth of Crown Royal......for "medicinal" purposes.

I'll lower the hurricane shutters Tuesday...IF the track still brings it here. Then sit in the dark....medicating myself.;)

MISTY

Fill your pockets with bricks.

At 5am it looks like 6-9 feet of extra water in Tampa Bay. This is gonna make a lot of people unhappy tomorrow. If the storm comes ashore around Clearwater its 9-12 feet of water in the Bay...more unhappy people. 4-8 inches of rain will flood many neighborhoods.

I made a bet that the storm explodes to CAT 3 when it gets in the Gulf. CHARLEY and DONNA and the 1935 hurricane went nutz when they hit the Florida Straights and the Gulf Stream. Too much heat energy in the water.

Hey Cat, Misty, all other floridians.

Ya'll ok?

Heard the winds never reached hurricane status but thousands without power.

Also haven't heard much about tornadoes spinning off the storm track, and in texas we know one tornado can ruin your whole day.

Hope ya'll are ok and have power.

:rose:

Hope y'all are safe and sound- waiting for updates on your status.

We know Cat will be bbqing up a suckling pig for all those who pissed around and didn't get pervisions. He always takes care of those around him!!

Praying and waiting,
C
