There's the story from years ago when The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas was running on Broadway. A guy decided to get tickets for his wife for their anniversary, but she wanted to know what the deal was when the price was listed on their statement as "Whorehouse." Kind of ruined the surprise.

It's a bit weird being a child during the tech boom and remembering the before times, when the old things lingered. I know you're in your 60s so you probably get it. I'm not that old, but the first computer I ever typed on for English was an Apple 2.

I agree with this, except in my case, the first computer I wrote on was an Osborne. Screen about the size of my hand. Had to keep scrolling left and right to catch everything I'd written and edit.

I had a Patreon for a while. They were (reportedly) pressured by credit card companies to collect data on anyone providing adult content. I closed my account because they required a selfie of me holding a current photo ID in order to keep getting paid.

Let's say you don't want to get paid for it.

That sounds like Reddit. I don't think you have to do that with XNXX. I use Reddit and have read stories on XNXX.

Reddit is is basically broken down into categories or subreddits as it's called there. Each one has its own moderators who are subredditors just as all who use Reddit are called. Some mods are very good and others can be down right terrible. Karma really isn't a big deal.

I haven't heard to many complaints about XNXX but my only complaint is that the website isn't formatted for mobile and makes it difficult to read.

They say you don't have enough karma, but the way you get karma is to post, which you can't do because you don't have enough karma.

Ahorsewithnoname at WRIST usually responds to me immediately... but then, he is my publisher and I'm one of his top writers. He likes to see his writers happy and making money.

I agree - AO3 is quite a site, but it's not a social site. I have a few stories there and posting a story is a fairly complex operation, especially a story that's part of a series of stories.

Cumbersome is the word I'd use. More steps to publish than here, but a good site if you don't mind a few extra steps.

I tried to post a story that I have here (and at AO3) about a certain person of modest celebrity and her first time. I got a note from Cydia (one of the editor/moderators) telling me they don't accept celebrity stories. I got around it. I simply took out all last names and resubmitted it.

You can write about a fictional celebrity and you can even base that person on a real one, but not too closely.

So you post a story in the same way you would make a regular forum post. Interesting.
The only thing I don't understand is the fact that stories can't be seen or read at all unless you're a member. Authors usually want as much exposure as they can get.

It's an odd site. I was on it for one particular author's stories, but they left a couple serial stories unfinished, so I stopped going there.

It is a site that was set up by a group of authors from XNXX and they were seriously burned by trolls over there, so they built WRIST to be troll proof. No anonymous anything anywhere, and trolling will get you booted. It's a fun community there. Tonight is music night, several of us gather in the chat room and we play music videos for each other. Friday night is trivia night. There's a writing contest every month, 1000 words on the current topic. Blogs, all kinds of things. It's Social social media.

I can see the benefit in also posting on a site that is predominantly other writers, if it results in more quality feedback. I'm just concerned that Duleigh is going to tell them that I am his side piece.

I'd hardly describe AO3 as 'teeny-tiny' given that there can be 10,000 stories filed under a single TV show, but what it's really missing over there is a forum and a PM system.

Is it though? There are easily over a million "explicit" rated stories on AO3, and even if you are not into fanfiction there are over 100,000 in the "original work" category.
