I'm absolutely screwed if that happens. Not so much because of the erotic content, but because many of my stories are not politically correct. Some of my stories could potentially have the erotic content removed or toned down to nothing and still provide a good read, but would probably never be accepted by a site such as Wattpad for instance.

I've been writing for eleven years and have had three computer failures and two hard drive corruptions (bit rot) in that time, losing all files. I've given up on any belief that digital files are permanent.

If I thought my content was really worth preserving for the 22nd century, I'd print it all out and keep a paper copy.

What would be useful would be for someone to tell me how to rip a full set of my Lit content down to a computer, so I could have another go at keeping a complete copy of my content. Some idiot proof method that I can hide from the immediate family!

The 22nd Century? Notable that most of Emily Dickinson's poems were not published until after her death. I assume there was one copy of each that she had somewhere. I wonder if she intended for someone to find them eventually.

Fortunately I don't have any immediate family living here.

Maybe it will be Paramount Communications - excuse me, Paramount Global - the old Gulf & Western conglomerate. They may have room somewhere for Lit, but it's probably too small for them to care about.

There is an extension for Chrome and Firefox called WebToEpub that I believe is pretty simple to use. It lists Literotica as a supported site. The extension itself shouldn't cause any concern, so you'll just have to hide the epub files it creates.

My stories exist nowhere else. I write them here on the site, so when I publish them that is the only place they exist.
I have no files, documents or copies. And I am ok with that. I will probably never read them again anyway.
I would really miss the community though.

I don't know their business model, but it seems they make most of there money through selling merchandise and the cam girls. Anybody detect other revenue sources? It helps to have lots of users, but they are there to attract business, not be the business in themselves. I've seen Lit ads on other sites - porn sites, of course.

Yes, and I save everything to two USB's one I keep in my desk here and the other I keep in the safe deposit box with my high priced comics. In case there's ever a fire.

This is a good question. I have three stories pending, and it seems that most of the stories from the authors I follow aren’t getting published either. Also, Laurel and Manu aren’t going to live forever, and I wonder what would happen if something bad were to happen to either of them, or if they lost interest in keeping the site running. I’ve heard some authors mention Lush or other sites, but in my opinion, Xnxx has a strong readership and a solid history of producing good stories. The downside is that you have to jump through hoops to publish there, and I still haven’t figured out how to access my account.

It's not hard. Posting stories on there is more tedious than joining... at least with a phone, anyway. The site is ancient.

If they were struggling, they could start asking for donations, maybe put something at the top of the page, not too intrusive, hopefully. Just encourage people to donate if they can. Those micro-donations can add up. A lot of niche You Tubers making a living that way.

I think the challenge with that is getting people to create a financial trail connecting them to a "porn site".
Same reason there are so many anonymous users.

I don't know about Lush, but SOL could, no problem. For two reasons:

First, Laz has helpers. Second, there are very few authors on here who write actual stories. Most just share their masturbation fantasies or 750-word projects which, if posted on SOL, would only earn you comments telling you to post that stuff on Reddit.

Though, maybe, if enough people complain, the site would finally get an overhaul and no longer look like it's stuck in the 90s.

Lush has mods. Enough in fact that even with their paid members first shit, I find it odd that wait times are just as long, as here.

As far as my storage goes; if nothing goes stupid, it gets saved to OneDrive, because I write on my phone. When I'm done, or get a bit paranoid, it's saved on my sd card and Dropbox. I also bluetooth it to my laptop where it's saved there, a thumbdrive, and a portable harddrive. I guess I could get fancy and print them out and bind them, in case another solar storm knocks out more than my cell service.

I know two people who are with the same publisher I'm with that had that happen. I tell people not to use it and I get the "Don't listen to the old man, he probably still uses floppy discs" crap.

FWIW my wife's step mother still uses them. I don't even know where she manages to get them.

I wish I didn't agree with this because I like to be optimistic about the ability of people to disagree with one another and exchange ideas on the Internet in a civil way, but I think most of this is true. So much of social media is just a huge waste of time. The Politics Board at this site is a toxic joke. I've waded in there a few times and every time come away wondering why I waste my time. It's two sides calling each other names. There are very few places in social media where you can exchange ideas and express differences of opinion in a way that seems worthwhile. It's one of the reasons I value this forum, because for all of its flaws and the occasional bad attitude and trolling, and occasional tempers flaring, it's better than almost any alternative I can think of.

I would be very sad to see this place shut down, because I do NOT see good alternatives.

Because the mods actually screen the stories closely and don't just push things through.

In a way I feel that Lit vs LS is a microcosm of society. One just hacks their way through but is the biggest so people deal with it. LS enforces all their rules, screens the stories, has much more respectful forum-albeit its small-and basically makes a real effort so of course they're way behind Lit and probably SOL as well.

As for paid members first? I'd so monetize this site if I ran it. Unlimited reading for $4.99 a month and you have to have a user ID to vote and comment. Hello profit, hello coming up with ways to get some money to the authors, goodbye anon crap bags.

The less google in my life the better. I have some floppys from back in middle school and probably early high school. I wish I had something to read them and have a good laugh.

It's a bit weird being a child during the tech boom and remembering the before times, when the old things lingered. I know you're in your 60s so you probably get it. I'm not that old, but the first computer I ever typed on for English was an Apple 2.
