All things British

Tom Barnaby (John Nettles) is soooo way cool. I just love this show!!!

Good thing I can record 'cause I've got a tee time in an hour. ;-)

Have never been a fan of Midsommer Murders.

Its such a small place and very middle class, its a wonder anyone moves there they have such a high cime rate lol

I did meet John Nettles 20+ years ago, very briefly, he was very polite.

As for Dr Who and the Daleks

Just the opening music is enough to scare me lol.

I even had a nightmare about the daleks last year

Its not showing here at the moment, but when it was my sister and I would text each other before the show then call each other to discuss how scared we were!

(That was just a few weeks ago, not years ago *blush*)

She is frightened of the cyber men, but for me its the Daleks everytime.

In the UK its essential viewing, its been so long running everyone has a favourite doctor and has seen it at some point in their lives.

Andante saw part of one episode and thought it was rubbish.

He has no taste in TV viewing lol

That's kinda what I say about J.B. Fletcher on Murder She Wrote... everywhere she goes someone dies. LMSAO

Not a show I could ever enjoy.
So I understand where you're coming from.

Hmm, so we now can enjoy the new series of Inspector Lynley, though I am not sure enjoy is the word. LOL, when will he and Havers finally do the thing and stop dancing around how they feel by pretending it is not there?!! Now he is working his way back to his wife?!! The things guilty thoughts can make people do.

Catalina :rose:

Hmmmm, can't say how guilty I feel now. Not going to spill the beans and spoil it for anyone, but everything is different now forever.

Definately hope Richard Hammond is going to be OK, and that this tragic accident will not affect the future of Top Gear. It is one of the few motoring programmes I want to watch, and not so much for the crazy stunts they sometimes pull, but just the great personalities of all the guys...and you actually learn something about cars!!

Catalina :rose:

There's a show here... I think on HGTV about cars. Oh, I think Eb mentioned it when she did a thread. It's called Pimp Your Ride. They do some really cool things with cars for people. I saw one that I swear to God, when they got done with this car the MPG had to be like 3. It had a water bed in the back.

Does anyone here watch Midsomer Murders, Poirot, A touch of Frost or Prime Suspect?

I just love those shows and I've been buying up the DVD sets of them for the last couple of months. I watch them on the Biography channel and record them, too.

Shy was wonderful enough to remind me what the Helen Mirran show was (Prime Suspect) and I've been on amazon.com looking for those.

Anyway, I'm gonna have plenty of time to watch this stuff in the upcoming weeks and just wondered if anyone else watches.

I just have a love for all things British. I have the videos of what's-his-name's History of Britian and the book that goes with it. And lots of other books that relate to that wonderful area of the world. Someday, I want to go there and see it all. I found a great website a while back that sells blue stone stuff - the stone that was used to build Stonehenge - and want to buy some of it for my kids. (LOL... it's all in pounds and not dollars, though.)

Okay, sorry for rambling. I just started watching Midsomer Murders and thought I'd share this.

Carry on... ;-)

TBH I cant believe there are people out there that actually watch that stuff. All those shows are completely boring. No violence, no sex, no comedy nothing! not even bad language! What do you see in them A Desert Rose?

What does TBH mean?

You'd be the first person to care what I see in something or care about what I think. So I ask you, why do you care?

TBH = to be honest.

Why would I be the first person to care about what you think?

'Care' is the wrong word to use. I'm British and I see nothing remotely interesting in the shows you mentioned but you are obviously very taken with them, I cannot understand why so I'm asking out of curiosity.
Simple no?

Thanks. I'm not good at computer-ese.

Good question. Start a poll or a question thread. I'm sure you'd get plenty of responses to that. Maybe because I don't have anything interesting to say? Or option 2, I'm a bitch?

I simply like those shows. I like whodunits. I like mysteries. I like drama. Not that anyone cares.

I know that you didn't ask me, but I like some of the same shows, so I'm gonna take a stab at it anyway.

Hmm, you know, I don't require violence or sex to make a movie/television show interesting to me. Part of the reason I like Poirot is that there isn't a lot of blood and gore, and I like television that engages my brain, rather then lulling it into screen saver mode. There is humor and wit in all of the shows ADR mentioned, in the form of wordplay and delightful plot twists. I don't understand why people equate foul language with being "grown up" or being "good" or "worthwhile". Have we, as a group, devolved to the point that we need an expletive laced laugh track to tell us what is good entertainment? I'd like to think that there's a bit more to the human brain than that, but some of this bloody (I mean literally bloody, as in gore) crude humor that's become so popular makes me think we've reached the pinnacle of the homo sapien and it's all down hill from here.

edited for extreme typoness, cause I meant homo sapien, not home sapien.

Yep... just what she said. ;-)

I like that av...

I do like some of the crime shows we have over here, but I love the British mysteries and stuff, too. Or the way they do mini-series! The BBC did a great version of "Pride and Prejudice" that was done eons ago, so long ago that it's not on DVD, just 8 or 9 VHS tapes that I just lurve. It totally kicks the asses of both recent big screen versions that were produced here. There's a reason PBS gets so much material from them. Oh, they also did an adaptation of the Lion, "the Witch and the Wardrobe" that was good. The special effects on the Hollywood version were good, but the quality of the movie, especially in the acting, was better than the dreck I unfortunately paid full price for at the AMC here in town. Ooh, and the soundtrack was AWESOME. They also did two of the later books, "Dawn Treader" and "the Silver Chair". Those are available through Wonderworks, I think but again, only on VHS over here.

Anyway, I sidetracked myself.

I like some of the crime shows here, but I've found that I like the ones that rely more on characterization and brain work (like Law and Order, or NCIS) than the ones who rely on gore. I don't really like any of the CSI's. NCIS gets a little grody sometimes, but it's no biggie. And I have a crush on Abbie, but that's not germane to the discussion. I mean, there's hotties on CSI: Miami but it's not enough to overcome what I don't like.

I love NCIS, it is on over here on a saturday night.
The story lines can be lame but the view is good ;)

The guy who plays the lead.....I look at him and can't help but wonder what his cock looks like

I guess it shows I really go for older men who are in control
