All things British

Mince pies are YUCK (and traditionally english) but do you mean 'black pudding?'
Its made from oats, fat and animal blood? Its about 2cm thick and small round shapes. As you look at it its black with big globs of white fat shining through it.
It sounds awful but tastes ok, I don't eat it because of what its made of, not how it tastes.

Have you ever tried Haggis??
Its wonderful, amazing and filling.
But I may have said that before lol

Am pretty sure black pudding and blood pudding are the same thing, like bronn said. I did not like haggis a lot either, but it was better than the blood pudding! But I do not want to turn ADR's lovely thread into British things we do not like. So here are some more things I do like....

Playing cricket, Thornton's Chocolate, malteaser's and my Love's voice leaving pervy (and generally unrepeatable) yet mushy messages on my voice mail!

Ms. Shy, I believe she meant blood pudding, cause I have inside information. :D But you're right, it's the same thing as black pudding. I made it once for a diversity day breakfast and she took about two bites and decided she didn't like it. We always called it Blood Pudding at home (County Mayo) but in Dublin I heard it called Black Pudding too.

Thanks for explaining that, funny how we all speak the same language, yet at the same time its so different lol :)

Miss Rebecca come closer and I will whisper it in your ear....
Lord Bob Sunday raost is wonderful but C's Button clinches it for me with the mention of malteasers They are one of my favourites. Why eat one box when you could have six ROFL

Ps C's Button the other choc that is great is called 'Buttons,' its aimed at kids and if they can wrestle them away from me, they can have them LOL

Minstrels are the best...

And I love the cadbury Walnut Whip too. I like a lot of the crazy Barr beverages as well like Iru-Bru, Red Cola, and Clear Cream Soda.

Those are some crazy tasting drinks!

What's that Christmas custom where they bake stuff in the pudding? I saw it on an episode of Poirot one time... and everyone wears a crown? It's a cool thing.

I think your right lord bob, in 1800's i think it used to be a silver sixpence which meant luck/wealth. I have a vague idea that generally it was 'fixed' and the youngest child got the six pence.

LOL, we used to do that with the Christmas pudding, though had to wrap the coin in aluminiium foil to prevent bad things happening to the metal of the coin and our stomachs. From memory, when we were very small, my mother would put more than one coin in it to make sure everyone got a chance.

Yes and in that episode of Poirot, everyone had a turn stirring the pudding. And everyone found some kind of "treasure" in their pudding. It's a neat tradition.

Another one I love which I forgot momentarily is Waking The Dead...think you might like it also ADR.

Hi Rose, wonderful to see you back & sounding so well.

The absolute BEST British crime series is "Wire in the Blood" with Robson Green & Hermione Someone?? Fantastic, twisted story lines, excellent characters, wonderful acting.

We know that the DVDs are available because we've got them & have watched them over & over. Even when you know what happens you always find something that you've missed in it before.

The very first episode has a very strong B&D theme & they don't shy away from it either. You'll love it.

OMG... it's so good to see you!!! You're ever so scarce here and can't know how much seeing you post makes me happy! It's wonderful to find another like minded person (such as you and I are) even though we are a kazillion miles apart. And thank you for your kind words.

I'll be going to amazon or google to find this show. Sounds like something right up my alley.

Don't be such a stranger, ok? I miss you and your great insights here.

... Helen Mirren is often called 'The thinking mans crumpet' as she is quite sexy without being obvious lol

ADR when your ready to convert $ to £ for a spending spree and have tea with cream scones let me know.

I will happily join you.

But don't forget your umbrella as its usually raining LOL

I would love to be known as 'the thinking man's crumpet.' How lovely.

And count on it... If I ever get to Great Britain, you'll be among the first I'll call.

Something else British that I really like ......

LONDON!!!!

Oh yea!!! me too! My other biggest dream besides seeing Rome is seeing London.

(and someday being successfully fisted but that's another whole thread... LOL)

Have you seen the Second Sight movies? Those are also good- and in the same vein as Prime Suspect, etc.. You can find them at Borders, Barnes and Noble. Also, classic Brit comedy Are You Being Served and Jeeves and Wooster(with the luscious Hugh Laurie).

Are You Being Served and Ab-Fab have been mentioned before both of them I enjoy, a bit surprised no one has mentioned the classic: Monty Python (the TV series as well as their many movies).

Red Dwarf and Dr. Who and for hard SF, the current Battlestar Galactica (produced in GB and a season ahead of us here in the US).

Upstairs, Downstairs (if you want a model on how to run a service based D/s household, nothing on TV has ever been a better primer!)

*grins*
And who could forget "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" ? ? ?

Arthur Dent: "What's the problem of travelling in hyperspace?"
Ford Prefect: "Well... It's rather like being drunk."
Arthur: "And what's wrong with being drunk?"
Ford: "Ask a glass of water."

Added: I almost forgot.... Wallace and Grommit
*LOL*

LOL, just finished watching The Vicar of Dibley 'Nativity Play' episode and it was just what I needed for a good laugh. Does anyone remember 'Please Sir'; 'Father Dear Father'; 'Steptoe and Son' and of course 'On The Buses'? Hmmm, now I am showing my age.

Yes, your showing your age LOL

Sadly I remember them all, although I watched them from my pram (honest)

There was also a comedy in the 70's called 'Love thy Neighbour' which was unbelieveably racist.
Funny but they never show clips or re-runs of it

Brit Detectives

Good to see you up and kicking ADR. Read a number of your posts; always enjoy! :rose:

Another contribution:
There is a series called "Cracker"--with Robbie Coltrane. The first DVD set -I think- has the BDSM episode. Mild mannered librarian is "Super Bitch" killer in alter ego. All the shows in the series are good. Cracker is a psychologist and unravels the thought processes of the culprits.

I love Robbie Coltrane and yes, I've seen Cracker and like it too. I wondered if anyone would mention him.

Thanks for the mention... I'm up and around but not kicking... yet. ;D Gimme time and I will be. LOL

Hi Rose. Hope you're feeling better & better every day.

If you know & like Cracker, you're really going to LOVE Wire in the Blood. Similar theme, but even more twist !

I haven't posted much lately because, to be honest, there hasn't been much here that I've been interested in, together with my businesses keeping me very busy.

Tomorrow, my baby, 28yo daughter, is being married, so great excitement & stress happening here LOL.

Talk soon xxx

Congratulations and pass them along to your daughter. That's wonderful news.

I'm looking for Wire in the Blood... sounds like something I'd really, really like.
