I know I’m not the only one who chooses not to participate in the politics or general board. Reasons include: hey, we made a choice, and/or we avoid certain types of arguments (we stick to OUR types of arguments,) and we, one of the reasons people come to Literotica, feel we are avoiding a “biggest fan” element by staying in our area.

When posts get out of hand here, shut em down. Moving them is going against our intentions of where we chose to post. Even if we sometimes grumble when threads get closed, it’s less bad than moving.

I don’t have a stake in today’s earlier misadventures. Moving posts instead of shutting them down is still wrong and cavalier on the mods (and Laurel’s, since AH mod never takes responsibility for controversial decisions.)

I was ignored last time I pointed this out. If you agree (hell, make it a poll, if you disagree too) make your thoughts heard.

Move the ones that are posted in the wrong place, leave the others.

I agree that moving "feedback-y" threads into the feedback forum is wise. But I would not have moved this morning's thread out of the AH.

It started as a complaint about the AH, and we could have dealt with it just fine here. But? Not my site, not my rules. Unlike some, I don't necessarily think the site should cater to my every whim, especially when I value my reputation as a "noble rebel." ;)

Not talking about you, OP. I'm talking about that other guy.

Moving it is dumping the problem on others. Threads that are simply venting and personal insults should be deleted. Moreover, the person indulging in such behavior should be warned and if they violate again, banned.

I THINK (though I don't really know) that the GB is seen as such a snakepit that any thread placed there from here was going to die a rapid natural death.

Honestly, that's exactly what seems to have happened to this morning's thread too. So it appears to have been a wise move by the mods, but I still think we could have handled it here.

Now, all the GB folk think we're weenies. :D

With a community this large, threads are going to be created in the "wrong" (as determined by mods) forum all the time, whether accidentally or intentionally. It's inevitable.

If you were in a library or book store and you saw a book in the wrong section, wouldn't you want it moved somewhere that more readers could find it, even if it weren't necessarily the place *you* would look?

I'm not saying that many (or even most) mis-categorized threads should be moved; every one of these is a tricky judgment call that I do not envy the mods having to make. But I think the last several decades of internet forum history has demonstrated that active, human moderation is the only possible way that pretty much any online community can stay healthy.

If I wanted politics and arguments, I'd go to Twitter

I just avoid that bullshit like the...ahem, PLAGUE here.

I agree that moving problematic threads only pisses people off.

But is this really happening with great frequency? I don't recall seeing many threads moved, other than to Story Feedback.

It seems that we go through stretches where the mod let's everything, even negative stuff spin and burn itself out. The "Let them play" version of being a Ref.

Other time, and we're in one of them, it seems they're very quick with the trigger finger on threads and banhammer on removing posts.

I have a better answer, but its based on something I would never outright say, and I imagine if I dropped a couple of hints the post would vanish. But once I figured it out, then saw some proof, it explains a lot.

I see it differently. my thoughts on the matter:

To my mind the ending of a thread is cavalier, not the moving of one.

The definition of "cavalier" (by Webster's online dictionary) as used in this context is:
"disapproving : having or showing no concern for something that is important or serious".

By ending a thread, the mod is essentially saying, "You get to say nothing else on this subject", which demonstrates no regard for the importance or seriousness placed on it by the participants.

On the other hand, moving it to another board (the GB) that does not have the same rigid requirements of decorum as the AH allows those who wish, to continue the discussion (or argument if you wish).

Once moved because a participant in the original discussion does not want to go to the new location to continue does not mean the opportunity to do so isn't available.

If a participant in the original discussion doe not wish to go to the new location to continue, or even to read the ongoing posts, they have effectively removed themselves from that discussion, which would amount to the same thing as ending the thread, with one important exception: it would allow those who want to keep posting to do so.

Any way my

@Vo, Purp, DJ, MBabe, LC, and Com, thanks for thoughts/comments on the topic at hand. (Apologies if I missed anyone.)

@BFG... Who WAS that masked girl? :rose:

Hmm. Com didn't agree with me. I feel like I should be throwing a tantrum or a fit or something. A lamp? Wait, here's a Nerf ball, good for throwing. (Or should I take my nerf ball and go home?) I can't just sit here, and be disagreed with, right? (Kidding of course.)
