Airline Passengers Taking Control

Since it has become apparent that governments around the world aren't really going to do anything about the threat posed on airplanes by Islamic terrorism, the airline passengers have taken control of things. As the TSA (and its counterparts all over the globe) don't want to engage in racial profiling.

But the people who have to fly on these airplanes...that put their lives on the line and actually want to live until they reach their next destination, are beginning to take action. Two recent incidents illustrate this perfectly. The first involves a situation that took place on a flight last week from Spain to the UK.

Two Muslim students were acting in a suspicious manner. The news coverage doesn't say exactly what they were doing, but it was enough to bother the passengers...and that's when it started. Some of the passengers informed the flight crew of what was taken place, then a bunch of the passengers stormed off the plane. The suspicious fliers were removed from the plane at gunpoint and the flight was on its way. The kids turned out to be clean, but who cares. Since nearly every airplane hijacker in the last 30 years has been an Arab Muslim, these passengers were simply playing the odds.

The second case involves something that took place yesterday. A Northwest flight from Amsterdam to India was escorted back to the airport by Dutch F-16's and 12 passengers were arrested for suspicious behavior. These passengers were of Middle Eastern origin and were passing around a cell phone on the plane, something that's not allowed. The other fliers weren't having it, so the plane was sent back and those in question were marched off by air marshals.

The message from government regarding airline security has been clear: because of political correctness, they are not going to do anything to prevent a repeat of 9/11. It's nice to see the passengers taking the matters into their own hands.

Disgusting. That's all there is to say.
So as your plane plows into the earth because a terrorist has taken control or blown himself up in the tailsection of the plane, will you think it is so disgusting?

Not all muslims are terroriest but in the 21st century most terrorists have been muslims.

Not all men are terrorists, but most terrorists have been men. Perhaps all men should be kept off aeroplanes and monitored in little camps.

Idiot. You don't deserve the security you do have.

... I dunnow, Zeb. It's turning into a bit of a Salem witch hunt. The passengers made a really bad error of judgement on that flight, and the hysteria was contagious.

According to the newspaper reports, many of the passengers claimed that the dishevelled appearance of the two men was what made them suspicious. In other words, big beards, untidy hair, scruffy clothes and a generally dirty appearance. If a Muslim's going to commit a suicide bombing, part of the ritual is that they shave all their facial hair and are scrupulously clean before doing so.

But that doesn't mean to say that every clean-shaven man of Middle Eastern appearance is a suicide bomber.

They could equally be female, and carrying the explosive in a baby bottle. Or a white convert... In fact, there is no way of telling without searching everyone who gets on a plane.

I think we're getting dangerously close to an "I won't fly with Muslims" point, and it really scares me. What's next? People power in the form of banning Muslims from planes? Or what about separate schools for Muslims and non-Muslims, in case one of the kids decides to enact revenge on his 'Muslim outcast' status and blows up all his classmates?

This is too much a throwback to Salem. Sure, be vigilant, but also trust in the professionals who now know there's a problem, and are doing their utmost to keep you safe.

Well I fought for mine, did you?

Every day. When we make it through to the 21st century and the world still has people like you, we have to.

I agree that not all men or woman for that matter, of middle eastern appearence are terrorist, it just in the past, what 10 years, that almost all of the terrorists have been persons of middle eastern appearance.

The odds are in favor of the next person trying to take over an airplane or blowing themselves up in a hospital or shopping center will be of middle eastern decent.

So tell me how you put your life on the line to defend your freedom? How much of your, not someone elses, your blood was spilled in defense of your nation?

My nation's freedom was regained without the loss of a single drop of blood.

I put my life on the line every day on the fight against terrorism by not being terrorised. I fight for my security every day, for example, by doing all I can to put as much distance as possible between people like you and anything more dangerous than a kitchen knife.

Me you don't have to be afraid of, it that terrorist with the TNT wrapped around his torso walking behind you at the shopping mall looking for his 72 virgins.

You're far scarier.

Well then I hope I scare you enough to wake the fuck up! Walking around with blinders on is a good way to fall into a hole.

Went and changed your post, huh?

yes, I did, because I decided to be as childish as you are. It's much more fun, and you're far likelier to understand it.

I bet you would like to shut me up, for me to be driven away and to never come back here. To never post anything ever again. Is that what you want?

Do you want to take away my right to free speech? The right to post things, whether I believe them or not, for the information contained therein?

Well it seems you have singled me out, put words in my mouth, claimed I have said things which I have not, claimed I am a bigot and a racist without justifying you claims. I have answered all your questions yet you choose to ignore those answers.

So would you abridge my freedoms just because you don't like what I post?

no, you can post whatever you like...

...and I'll just keep making fun of you. :D

eta: we all need a laugh now and then. Post away.

If we think that all people who look like Muslims are potential terrorists, then the terrorists have won part of the battle.

At least one of those charged this week in the UK is a British born convert. If he shaved his beard off he wouldn't aroused suspicion by his APPEARANCE.

The flight from Amsterdam was a significantly different situation from the flight with the two men travelling from Malaga. Twelve people sharing a mobile phone is a justifiable cause for concern, whatever they look like.

An awareness of the behaviour of about those who are travelling with you is reasonable. Insisting that anyone who looks like a Muslim should not travel is unreasonable.

If we demonise anyone who dresses differently, we are providing ammunition for the extremists who claim that the Western democracies are targeting ALL Muslims.

Thank you for saying so succinctly what I was thinking.
